Jamie Nelson, Bus Driver in the Nebo School District, was recognized at the transportation year-end banquet for her level-head and courage during a field trip taken this past month.

The day started as a field trip to Salt Lake City. Nelson transported Nebo students to the African Day Care Center to donate blankets. After dropping off the students and advisers, Nelson parked in another school district parking lot while waiting for the event to conclude. She left her bus to buy water bottles for the students and upon returning knew something looked different. She noticed a strap sticking out of the bus cargo bin and decided to investigate. Upon opening the bin, she found five boys hiding inside. They quickly jumped out and ran away.  Jamie was scheduled to pick up the Nebo students and did not have enough time to run after the five boys.

After many hours of investigation, Nelson connected with the school district, elementary school, and parents of the five boys.  Because of Nelson’s certified training and attention to detail, five children were safe who could have been in great danger.

Nebo School District would like to thank Jamie Nelson for her dedication and keeping all students safe.
