Robert Schmoyer was awarded the Jack Erickson Excellence in Technology Services 2012 Award by the Utah Coalition for Educational Technology (UCET) that is an affiliate of the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE).

Robert is the network engineer for Nebo School District and has worked for Nebo for eight years.  He manages the district’s network connecting 40 schools and several other facilities.  He works closely with UEN, CentraCom, and Spanish Fork Community Network to keep the network operational.

Robert leads a team of IT Specialists who install and maintain the technology in the district. He presents at the Utah Education Network (UEN) Technical Summit and takes an active role in the Regional T-Forum with UEN, Utah Valley University, Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC), Alpine School District, and Provo School District.  He hosted sessions on Active Directory migration, wireless networking, and other topics for other school districts.  He also plays an active role in the UtahSaint organization – attending the conferences and implementing the security techniques taught.

Thanks to Robert, students, teachers, administrators, and other district employees have a reliable network to use with both wired and wireless devices.  They have confidence that it will generally be up and that it will be fixed as quickly as possible if it goes down.  Students are able to use their own devices securely and properly filtered.  Employees have access to their files and tools across the district.

Robert’s innovative ideas allow the school district to operate well on a limited technology budget.  Effective use of Linux, VMware, open source software, and other cost effective suggestions allow the school district to get a high return on a reasonable investment.

Robert is dependable and dedicated.  He regularly stays late to do things that he didn’t get to during the day or to take care of things that are best done when everyone else has gone home.  He maintains a positive attitude and a willingness to help others with their technology concerns.

Robert is indispensable in our district. He makes it possible for the ever-increasing educational technology demands to be met so that teachers and administrators can truly provide a 21st Century education to the students of Nebo School District.

Congratulations Robert!
