Jeri Crosby, Nebo School District Music Specialist, Wins Awards

Jeri Crosby, music specialist for Nebo School District, was awarded the Outstanding Elementary Music Educator of the Year 2011 by the Utah Music Education Association (UMAE) and the Outstanding String Teacher by the Utah Chapter of the American String Teachers Association.

Jeri Crosby is passionate about music, education and music education. She has enjoyed opportunities to teach preschool through college students throughout her career, and currently enjoys mentoring teachers, developing music curriculum, and supervising the elementary orchestra program in Nebo School District.

Jeri has designed and implemented a variety of successful music programs, created and composed music education materials, and conducted research on the effects of music on literacy and learning environments. She taught orchestra, band, choir, general music, guitar, and piano in Kane County School District for 17 years before moving to Utah Valley seven years ago. Jeri has also taught private violin and piano lessons, music appreciation and guitar classes for Dixie State College, music for the elementary teacher for both SUU and BYU, and workshops in district, state, and national settings.

Jeri served as UMEA vice president for elementary music from 2009-2011. Jeri earned her master’s degree in the Art of Teaching with Music Educatiion emphasis from GCU in Phoenix, Arizona; her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in Music Education with a K-12 endorsement from SUU; Kodaly certifications from BYU, and Orff Schulwerk certifications from USU and UNLV.

Jeri strives to attain her teaching mission statement: “I will help my students prepare for the future by instilling love for learning and music. I will facilitate each student in becoming capable, creative, responsible, knowledge, and compassionate by creating student-centered learning opportunities which are engaging, meaningful, collaborative, equitable, and motivating.
