DeAnn Nielsen -- Assistant Principal Maple Mountain High

With RaShel Anderson taking a position as principal of Mapleton Junior, this leaves an opening at Maple Mountain High. The Nebo School Board of Education appointed Ms. DeAnn Nielsen as assistant principal of Maple Mountain High for Nebo School District.

Ms. Nielsen has worked in Nebo School District for 25 years. She is currently the principal of Brookside Elementary and has served for the past 4 years. Mrs. Nielsen was the principal at Canyon Elementary for 5 years. She taught third grade for 9 years and was a facilitator and teacher mentor for 7 years, both at Mapleton Elementary.  She graduated from Brigham Young University and was a Brigham Young University Leader Preparation Program (LPP) recipient from Nebo School District.

Ms. Nielsen was selected as Instructional Leader of the Year for 2007-2008 by the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals. She was also selected as Rookie Principal of the Year by the same group in 2004-2005.  She received the Excellence in Education Award by the Springville/Mapleton PTA Council in 2001 and was Nebo School District’s Distinguished Mentor Nominee in 1999.

DeAnn enjoys horseback riding, reading, knitting, going to dinner and the movies and spending time with family and friends. She is married to Ron. They have three children and reside in Mapleton.
