On October 13, an East Meadows student, unexpectedly collapsed on the playground. Becky Paice, the physical education teacher, quickly called the office. Office secretary, Janell Haskell, and office assistant, Linda Beck, responded.   Mrs. Haskell began CPR while Mrs. Beck called 911.  Mrs. Jen Jolley, the student’s classroom teacher, and Mr. Garrett Andersen, a mentor, also came to assist.

The police department responded very quickly. Lieutenant Steve Adams arrived within a couple of minutes.  He was quickly followed by lieutenant Brandon Anderson and officers Tyler Beddoes, Cory Grover, and Jason Harward. Within a few minutes, the ambulance arrived and took the student to the hospital where he was then life-flighted to Primary Children's Hospital.   He was diagnosed with a heart defect and is now recovering from open-heart surgery.  The doctors have credited the fast actions of these first responders for saving the student’s life

Nebo School District Board of Education honored this group of first responders during the November 9th board meeting.
