Nebo School District Hosts Utah County Foster Grandparents Program

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

The 46th Annual Foster Grandparents Recognition Banquet’s theme this year was “Follow Your Dreams”. The Recognition Banquet held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the BYU Harmon Conference Center room was filled with some of the most inspiring and experienced individuals in the county. These loving grandparents continue to help motivate Nebo students to “Follow Your Dreams”.

Elementary Director Julie Warren welcomed and organized this outstanding recognition event. She told a personal story about grandparents and how influential grandparents are in the lives of students. Julie displayed her grandmother’s patchwork quilt referencing how each student is like a patchwork quilt. Utah County Commissioner Doug Witney spoke to the Foster Grandparents about how important their volunteer time is to each and every student. Brookside Elementary, under the direction of Principal DeAnn Nielsen provided delightful entertainment with their ukelele program and choir students. Superintendent Rick Nielsen, the keynote speaker, spoke to the crowd about peak performers, follow your dreams, and always focusing on students.

When these loving grandparent volunteers share their love, time, and experience; they have the power to help a child in need. Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends. Nebo School District is certainly better for the many hours spent in the Foster Grandparent Program.

Nebo continues to be a leader with 23 volunteers and is proud of the many wonderful volunteers and wants to recognize these charitable and generous individuals.

This poem is dedicated to all the volunteers:

Follow Your Dreams!

You must follow your dreams
You must follow wherever it leads.
Don’t be distracted by less worthy leads.
Shelter it, Nourish it, Help it grow.
Hold your dream deep,
down deep where dreams grow.
Follow your dreams, Pursue it with haste.
Life is too precious, too precious to waste.
Be faithful, Be loyal in all the day through
the dream that you follow will ultimately come true.
