On Tuesday, September 27, 2011, a Marine Jazz Combo stationed in San Diego paid a visit to Payson High to perform and put on a clinic for approximately 150 students.  Music students from Payson High and Payson Junior High attended the hour-long program.  The combo demonstrated improvisation techniques and performed jazz standard tunes for the students.

The purpose of the tour is to let students know that a Marine Band might be an option after high school. The band discussed a variety of music careers available to musicians and answered students' questions.

The Marine Band San Diego, one of 12 concert field bands in the U.S. Marine Corps, is spending the week giving concerts and one-on-one instruction at high schools in Utah. Between the concert band and its smaller jazz combo, the 50-member group is visiting 15 high schools, said Christian Arellano to the Salt Lake Tribune. Christian is the enlisted conductor.

The San Diego-based concert band is visiting 15 high schools, giving concerts and instruction.
