Cathi Jarvis, Springville High’s Athletic Director, received the National Award of Merit 2011 by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) this spring. There is only one award per state.  Cathi was selected out of all the other athletic directors in Utah. The awardee is selected on meritorious service, leadership, and special contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local and state level.

Cathi Jarvis has been involved in education and athletics for 31 years as a teacher, coach, and athletic administrator. Her career began in 1980 at Manti High School where for 13 years she was the head volleyball, basketball, and softball coach. For several years, she was also the drill team and cheer advisor. In 1989, she became one of the first female athletic administrators in the state of Utah when she was named Athletic Director at Manti High – a true pioneer for women in the profession. Cathi’s fiery spirit and great ability to motivate students brought much success to her Templar teams. Cathi was named Coach of the Year by the Utah High School Activities Association during her career at Manti.

In 1993, Jarvis left Manti and moved north to take a teaching and coaching job at Springville High School in Springville, Utah. For several years, she was the girls' cross country and track coach. And in 1993, she became the Red Devil Athletic Director, a position she still holds today.

Cathi is a member and very active in the Utah Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association for the past 28 years. She served on the Athletic Directors Advisory Council presenting and moderating at several of our state conferences. She has volunteered for the past eight years to create and design a beautiful leather-tooled director's chair that is presented as our state gift at the NIAAA conference. She continues to be involved in professional development and annually enrolls in courses offered at state conference.

Cathi is a consummate professional and is well-respected and well-known throughout our state for her work ethic, leadership, and innovative ideas. This award is well-deserved because it recognizes the very successful career she has had as a coach and athletic director as well as the impact and influence she has been able to exert upon the student-athletes and coaches who have been in her charge. Cathi is truly an amazing leader and mentor and one of the top athletic administrators in the state of Utah.
