New Administrative Appointments for Nebo School District

Al Mosher, Human Resource Director, Will Retire in June

Al Mosher

Al Mosher, Human Resource Director of Nebo School District, will be retiring in June after 18 years in Nebo School District, 1 year in Georgia, and 20 years in California.

Mr. Mosher received his bachelor’s degree in physical education and English from Brigham Young University. He received his Master’s in Administration from the University of California.

Mr. Mosher’s first teaching assignment was in Georgia teaching physical education in a kindergarten through eighth grade school. He then taught English and history for Yucaipa Junior and High School in California for 6 years. Mr. Mosher spent the next 13 years as Assistant Principal for Yucaipa High and Junior High. His last year in California was spent as Principal of Valley Elementary. Mr. Mosher served over 3 years as Principal for Springville Junior before accepting the job as Human Resource Director for Nebo School District where he served for the last 14 years. Mr. Mosher has spent a total of 39 years in education.

Some interesting facts about Al is that he spent his youth participating in track. In high school he held the record for the 120 yard high hurdles, and he also ran the 440 yard intermediate hurdles for BYU. Al also spent two years in the Army serving as Accounting Section Chief in a finance office in Germany. Most recently he was released as Stake President in Springville for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Al is married to Marie and live in Springville. They have 6 children Heather Skanchy (Steve), Eve Hurtado, Rebekah Gappmayer (John), Tim Mosher (Tanis), Carolyn Wright (Joseph), Jennifer Dockendorf (Jeff). 22 grandchildren 8 granddaughters and 14 grandsons.

We would like to thank Mr. Mosher for his dedication to students and education.

 

Ann Anderson – Human Resource Director

The Nebo School Board of Education appointed Ann Anderson as the new Human Resource Director for Nebo School District.

Mrs. Anderson received her administrative certification from Brigham Young University in 2000 and her master’s and undergraduate degree from Utah State University.

Mr. Al Mosher, current Director of Human Resources said, "I have known Ann Anderson since I came to Springville Junior High as the Principal. She was an outstanding English teacher. I was so impressed with her that I encouraged her to get her administrative license because I felt she would make a wonderful administrator. Over the years, Ann has proven to be a great administrator at both the junior high and the high school levels. She did an outstanding job in opening the new Salem Hills High. I am thrilled to have Ann take my place as the Director of Human Resources."

Mrs. Anderson taught for twelve year in the areas of English, History, and World Geography. She has been an administrator for 14 years. She worked as the Springville Junior High Assistant Principal, Spanish Fork Junior High Principal, Springville High School Principal, and is presently the Principal of Salem Hills High. Ann has worked for Nebo School District for 20 years and worked outside the district for 5.

Mrs. Anderson received the Excellence in Education Award given by Springville PTA. She was awarded the Women in Leadership Community Service Award in 2009. She has been on numerous committees including Co-Chairman of Region VII Board of Managers, an evaluator of the Northwest Accreditation Team, a Springville Art Museum board member, and recently on a Task Force assignment for the State Superintendent.

Mrs. Anderson’s said, "I’ve been in Nebo School District for 20 years. It has been a wonderful place to work. I look forward to being a facilitator in the Human Resource Department in helping meet the needs of our employees."

Ann also states, "I have loved everywhere I have worked and especially the people I have been able to work with. I have made many lifetime friends. Although I will miss the faculty, staff, and the students, I am looking forward to a new and exciting opportunity. I look forward to helping meet the needs of the employees of Nebo School District."

When addressing the Nebo School Board, Ann said, "My favorite saying dealing with this new change in my life would have to be, ‘Don’t cry because it is over, Smile because it happened!’"

Ann is married to Val Anderson and they have three children Zachary (Cami), Katelyn VanAusdal (Jordan), Nic, and one granddaughter, Addison.

 

John DeGraffenried – Secondary Director

With the appointment of Scott Wilson as the Assistant Superintendent, that leaves an opening for the Secondary Director. The Nebo School Board of Education appointed John DeGraffenried as the new Secondary Director for Nebo School District.

Most recently, Mr. DeGraffenried has served as Springville High School’s Principal. He served as Principal for Spanish Fork Junior High for five years. Mr. DeGraffenried was the Assistant Principal of Spanish Fork Junior and Assistant Principal at Payson Junior for two years each. Mr. DeGraffenried taught drafting and multi-media classes at Spanish Fork High as well as technology at Landmark High. He spent eight years teaching technology at Spanish Fork Junior High.

Mr. DeGraffenried has won several awards including the prestigious Huntsman Excellence in Education Award, the International Technology Education Association Program Excellence Award, the Utah Industrial Education Association Technology Program of the Year Utah Trade, and served as Technology Educator Association President.

When addressing the Nebo School Board John said, "Since I have been in education, I have seen a lot of changes in technology. Tonight we have seen the uses of iPads, and I remember when Clark Clayson was showing me the new cassette recorder. It has been an honor to associate with so many that have made a difference in my life. I appreciate all the mentors that continue to help me through my career. It has been wonderful at Springville High, and I will miss the students and people of Springville. I am humbled by this new opportunity to work with the secondary principals and district personnel. Nebo School District is a wonderful place to work."

Scott Wilson, former Secondary Director and current Assistant Superintendent, said, "John has had multiple administrative experiences including junior high and high schools that will make him a fantastic secondary director. John is knowledgeable about many communities because he taught or managed in schools including Payson, Spanish Fork, and Springville. He also lives in Santaquin. John is a leader of change in providing improved learning opportunities for students."

John is married to Lynette, and they have four children, three of whom are married. They also have five grandchildren. He enjoys running, hunting, golfing, and spending time with his family. John also enjoys wood turning with his sons and nephews.

 

Mike Brown – Principal at Springville High

With John DeGraffenried taking the Secondary Director position, Nebo School Board of Education appointed Mike Brown as Principal of Springville High School.

Mr. Brown is currently the Assistant Principal for Springville High. He was the Principal at Rio Rico in Arizona. He received his bachelor’s degree in social studies from Northern Arizona University. He earned his Master’s of Educational Leadership degree from the University of Phoenix.

Mike has received numerous awards including the prestigious President’s Award for Excellence from the University of Arizona. He served as a high school athletic director, History department chair, and received Teacher of the Year award in Pinal County, Arizona. All three high schools in Arizona where Mr. Brown was an administrator received US News and World Report distinction as the top high schools in the nation.

A colleague said, "As an administrator, Mr. Brown had to deal with difficult situations, and did so in a professional manner. Mr. Brown was able to build a good rapport with the staff, students, and the community. Mr. Brown’s success is rooted in his respectful, caring and positive relationships he establishes with students."

When addressing the Nebo School Board, Mike said, "I want to thank you for all the time the school board puts in. I appreciate all the colleagues that have taken me under their wing. I have had a wonderful experience at Springville High. Springville High has a caring and dedicated staff. John had a great team here, and Brian Thorne is outstanding."

Mr. Brown believes that Springville high school will be successful due to the tremendous relationship of the students, staff, faculty and community. His door is always open to anyone who would like to be part of the Springville team.

Mr. Brown’s philosophy is: "Children today must be global learners and knowledgeable about not only the United States, but other countries and their cultures. As our society is becoming more diverse, our students must be tolerant and understanding of differences in the people they communicate with. With that said, all students must be educated and we as educators need to find strategies to meet the needs of all learners."

Mike is married to Ingrid and has six children.

 

Bart Peery – Principal Salem Hills High

With Ann Anderson taking the Human Resource Director position, Nebo School Board of Education appointed Bart Peery as the new Principal of Salem Hills High in Nebo School District.

Mr. Peery has been the Principal of Payson High for the past two years and Assistant Principal for six years. Before that, he taught math, physical education, drivers education, French, and Principals of Leadership for 17 years.

Bart graduated from Payson High school and received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University. Mr. Peery has also enjoyed coaching football, basketball, track, and soccer for over 25 years. He was the head football coach for 9 years.

When addressing the Nebo School Board, Bart said, "I am taking a little grief because all the clothes I own are green. However tonight I did find a green tie with gold and I found some blue pants. I have been at Payson for a long time and have given my heart and soul to PHS. I do look forward to this new challenge. Ann is an awesome leader and I am impressed with the students at Salem Hills High. I want to make a difference in students’ lives. Thank you."

Assistant Superintendent, Scott Wilson, stated, "I am convinced that Bart is an extremely effective administrator. He is one of those rare individuals that has the ability to have a positive effect on the students, faculty, and patrons that he interacts with."

Mr. Peery’s personal motto is by Goeth: "Things that matter most should never be at the mercy of things that matter least."

Bart is married to Karolyn, and they reside in Payson. They have three boys and two grandchildren.

 

Ben Ford – Principal at Payson High

With Bart Peery taking the principal position at Salem Hills High, Nebo School Board of Education appointed Ben Ford as Principal of Payson High School.

Mr. Ford has served as Assistant Principal at Payson High School for the 12 years. Mr. Ford taught English and history for 6 years at the junior high and high school. He has worked in Nebo School District for 12 years and outside the district for 7 years.

Mr. Ford received his bachelor’s degree in English and history from Brigham Young University in 1989. He earned his Master’s in Education Instruction with a minor in English from Oregon State University in 1991. In 1995, he received his Administration Certificate from Brigham Young University.

When addressing the Nebo School Board, Ben said, "I have had the unique opportunity to work next door to Bart for nine years. I have spent more time with him than my wife. It will be my personal challenge to continue to maintain such a great school. With the wonderful faculty, staff, community, parents and students, it will be an easier task. I am excited for this opportunity at Payson High School."

Bart Peery, current Payson High Principal, said, "Ben is a great leader. He is very dedicated to the students at Payson High and is committed to helping them achieve their goals. I have appreciated his ability to make me laugh in difficult situations, and his insight in problem solving. Ben is an extremely hard worker and is ‘always’ at school. He is a fantastic father and a great friend. I have appreciated his support and know that he will do amazing things as Principal of Payson High School."

Ben is married to JoLynn. They reside in Payson and have four children Taylor, B.J., Alex, and Jake ranging from a sophomore in college down to a fifth-grade student.
