Payson Junior High delighted the Nebo School Board of Education with their Jazz Band directed by Mrs. Connie Ericksen. They performed music from the selection of Glenn Miller – music popular in the1940's. Some of the pieces played included "My Dinner With Ronald", "American Patrol", and "Ain’t Got No Place to Go".
Principal Carl Swenson remarked about the music presentation, "Mrs. Ericksen directs her Jazz Band in class just as enthusiastic as she has here tonight."
The Jazz Band meets at 7:00 a.m. a couple of times each week.
Nebo School Board of Education member, Collin Allan, said with emotion, "I especially loved the selection you chose because thousands of American Soldiers listened to that particular music in World War II."
The School Community Council Chairperson, Jo Lynn Ford, discussed some of the items that the Trustlands monies have provided for teachers and students. Almost all teachers have a projector in their classroom and most have document cameras. The teachers have also had the opportunity to have training on this technology. Currently, two teachers have applied for grants to purchase SmartBoards.
This technology has enhanced remediation for students that need the extra help to be successful.
"We are thrilled with administration and all their work hard. We appreciate the school board and your support, especially with all the remodeling that has enhanced our school. My own students love attending Payson Junior High," said Jo Lynn Ford.
The administration, Principal Carl Swenson and Assistant Principal Ryan McGuire, remarked that they continue to focus on increasing and enhancing student learning. They continue to focus on the core areas. As a school, they are dedicated to academic success, social integrity, and responsible citizenship."
"We have the best junior high in the district, stated Principal Carl Swenson. I get to be a junior high principal and have the best job in the world. It is truly the best school."
