Lynn Harmer, physical education teacher at Mt. Nebo Junior, was selected as Teacher of the Year by the Utah Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Lynn was born and raised in Payson, Utah, and held her first job as a fruit farmer on her family's farm. It was while on the job planting, picking, sorting, and selling that her father first suggested she go into teaching. Lynn graduated from Payson High School, where she was active in student council. She also spent her summers swimming for the Payson and Utah Valley swim teams.

Lynn attended BYU, receiving her bachelor's degree in Health for Secondary Education, with minors in English and Driver Education, and an endorsement in Physical Education.

After graduating, Lynn began teaching in Nebo School District and is in her twenty-first year. She taught at Payson Junior High School and now teaches at Mt. Nebo Junior High School. Her current principal, Kaye Isakson, commends Lynn's work with her students, stating that she knows her students and strives to inspire lifetime skills in each of them.

In addition to being an instructor, Lynn is athletic director. As such, she advocates for girls’ athletics. She has been a part of both high school and junior high athletic programs. Currently, Lynn directs the Healthy Lifestyle program, helping faculty and students stay physically fit and nutritionally motivated. Her example and passion for healthy living is a major part of the success of the program.

Lynn is married to Brent Harmer, and they are the proud parents of three children and five grandchildren (with two more on the way). Her interests and hobbies include swimming, boating, reading, horseback riding, and being with her family.
