Mrs. Lori Nielsen was appointed by the Nebo School Board of Education as the principal of Art City Elementary in Springville for Nebo School District filling the vacancy left by Dave Rowe with his new appointment to Hobble Creek Elementary. Lori graduated from Weber State with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She is currently finishing up her master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Brigham Young University. Lori has been in education for 15 years. All in Nebo School District. She started her career at Park Elementary teaching fifth grade. Most recently, Lori taught at Canyon Elementary including fifth, third, and second grades. Julie Warren, Elementary Director for Nebo School District, said, “I am thrilled for Lori to be the principal at Art City Elementary. She will do an exceptional job. She is a great educator always wanting to stay on the cutting edge on current educational practices.” Mrs. Nielsen was nominated for Who’s Who Among American Teachers. She has served on the Drug and Alcohol committee, School Community Council, and supervised student teachers at Utah State University. She conducted observations, evaluations, and workshops for the student teachers. One principal stated, “Lori strives to cultivate positive interactions with anyone she meets. She is always helpful and personable. Lori has developed trust among students and parents even in potentially hostile situations. She calmly listens to their concerns, discusses options, and together creates a common understanding.” Mrs. Nielsen certainly leads by example as she pursues opportunities that promote a focus on student achievement. Her motto is from John Dewey: “What the best and wisest parent wants for his own child, that must the community want for all its children.” Mrs. Nielsen said, “Thank you for your confidence in me. I look forward to Art City Elementary. I have heard so many wonderful things about the school and community.” Lori delights in leadership roles working with the youth and particularly enjoys reading, camping, swimming, running, and being with her family. She is married to Sterling. They reside in Spanish Fork and have five children.
