More March Grants Given by the Nebo Education Foundation

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Before the Coronavirus became a common school term, the Nebo Education Foundation board deliberated on a number of grants in March. Here are a few more that received funds to meet the many needs across the district. This Foundation Board functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses as well as fundraisers where all the money goes to educate students in Nebo School District. Thank you to all those that so generously supported Nebo students through donations.

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to invigorate students’ appetites for learning.

Brockbank Elementary – Jennifer Jolley
Jennifer Jolley, facilitator at Brockbank Elementary, said, “Brockbank Elementary is so grateful for The Nebo Foundation and their generous grant! The donation will provide new books for our guided reading library and classroom use. The grant means that teachers will have materials needed to teach students to read. It also means that each student will have his/her own book to use during guided reading groups! We are so appreciative for the people who make this grant possible!”

Landmark – Hilary Jones
Hilary Jones, math teacher at Landmark High, said, “Landmark High School Math Department is so excited to receive this grant for graphing calculators. Our vision for Landmark students is to help students become lifelong learners. Landmark’s mascot is a dragon. Dragons are about change, magic and a promise that something special is about to happen. This is the attitude that we want to foster and encourage in our students. It is truly a magical thing to receive this grant for Graphing calculators which will help to better align the math curriculum at Landmark High School to the Utah State Core Math standards.”

Park Elementary – Eric Kern
Eric Kern, instructional coach at Park Elementary, said, “Thank you for approving our grant of $1,000 for Park Elementary for books of our small group instructional library. It is necessary that our students engage with appropriately complex texts at every grade level in order to develop the mature language skills and the conceptual knowledge for continued success.  We plan to use the specific titles listed to provide the opportunity for the kinds of close reading and analysis emphasized throughout the State Core Standards.  In addition, we plan to use specific book series to provide opportunities for practice within context after systematic, direct, explicit instruction is given.”

Spanish Fork Junior – Jerry Whiting
Jerry Whiting, science teacher at Spanish Fork Junior, said, “The main purpose for this grant is when using Nearpod on the students’ class Chromebooks. Nearpod has proven invaluable to me as a teacher to have immediate feedback. This allows me to correct misconceptions on the spot and allows me to have a ‘back and forth’ discussion as a class. Thank you for approving the grant! I look forward to working with the foundation in the near future.”
