Amy Nelson is the daughter of Lowell and Rita Nelson of Highland. Amy has 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Her 10 nephews and 7 nieces love her dearly. She was born in Yakima, Washington. Amy lived there, and then in Ogden followed by Highland. She is now living in a cute little place in Provo. Amy loves to travel. She would travel the world over if she could. She taught English to preschoolers in Russia. Amy started serving an LDS mission in Albania. During some eventful times she had to be airlifted and shipped to England where she finished serving. Amy Nelson has studied at UVU and then graduated with an Early Childhood/Elementary Education at BYU. Amy is currently studying courses from Cedar City online to receive a masters’ degree. Amy has been able to help many children; between her 1 year at Brookside, 3 years at Brockbank Elementary teaching kindergarten, and currently with 3 years at Riverview teaching second grade. She is a marvelous teacher. She has helped many interns, student teachers, and grade levels to achieve greatness. She is a member of the UEA. Amy inspires her students to accomplish great things. They love to listen to her read stories, and teach math. One student replied “I love Miss Nelson, she is the best, and she reads great.” Another student says, “I like learning Miss Nelson’s math.” Her classroom is always inviting, and she always has a smile on her face. The faculty, at Riverview think she’s amazing. She shares her wonderful talents with all she meets. We are excited she is receiving this year’s Crystal Apple Award, given by Craig Harvey of Horace Mann. Great job Amy.
