Twenty Nebo Female Students Experience WING Flight - Answer to Wednesday Challenge

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Just this past week, 20 Nebo female students attending the Advanced Learning Center (ALC) along with the architecture teacher and pilot, Ms. Adriane Wilson, and the CTE specialist, Mrs. Ronda Hair met at the Salt Lake National airport to join a group of 120 girls from all over the state of Utah to take part in the 2019 WING Flight. This WING experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Nebo students.

Delta created the WING Flight to attract women to the aviation and aerospace fields. From the flight crew, pilots, gate agents—and even flight dispatchers—the flight was entirely female. The WING Flight gives girls a chance to see themselves in traditionally male-dominated roles. The WING Flight originated as a response to the lack of female pilots — only 5.14 percent of pilots in the United States are female.

The WING Flight gives girls an opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of traditionally male roles. Flights are joined by female mechanics, engineers, technicians, and IT specialists.

NBC’s Natalie Morales joined Delta Air Lines for its fifth annual WING Flight, which an all-female flight team brings together 120 young girls who have their sights set on careers in aviation and aerospace. The 20 females who attended from Nebo’s ALC were Mckennah Watson, Kailee Richman, Jasmine Jonas, Alexis Sorenson, Emily Jolley, Savanah Higley, Fernanda Olvera, Katelyn Gappmayer, Abigail Macias, Cozette Caron, Katie Farley, Allyson Roman, Rachel Weber, Brin Barnett, Grace Thacker, Katelyn Jackson, Morgan Dean, Frida Gomez-Rios, Daisy Gonzalez, Ember Lee.

This program alternates states to select girls to go on this flight. It was a privilege for Utah and Nebo students to be chosen this time. The schools that were honored with this opportunity are the Advanced Learning Center, Bryant Middle School, Granite Technical School, Jordan Technical School, Karl G Maesar Prep Academy, and the Salt Lake Center for Science Education.

Thank you to Nebo’s ALC aviation teacher, Mr. Mark Hall, and to Granite’s aviation teacher, Ms. Amy Monson, for making this a possibility for our female students!

Congratulations to Marilyn Richman for answering this week’s “Where are we Wednesday?” challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
