KyLynn James is Teacher Spotlight in State Health & Physical Education

This month’s Teacher Spotlight is KyLynn James of Salem Junior High School in Nebo School District. KyLynn is always looking for new ways to incorporate technology, inquiry-based lessons, and activities for both eighth- and ninth-grade students. Her
ninth-grade students have worked on a project using their nutritional knowledge to design, create, and defend America’s next food icon (the next MyPlate).

Students became deeply involved with this project and even considered submitting
them to the U.S. government. KyLynn’s class is organized, and each student knows the routine. She checks in regularly and has a great mix of lesson, discussion, group, and independent work. Her hour was planned down to the minute and it worked beautifully. She did share a book of student work (highlighted it in the photo). Her students are creative and so talented!

Ms. James students said, “I like Ms. James, she really interacts with everyone, is super organized, and she does stuff with a lot of kids outside of class too and that’s why they like her.”

Another student said that Ms. James is really easy to work with and loves that she posts her after school schedule so all students know when they can come in after school for help.

KyLynn said,  “I chose teaching health specifically because I wanted to make an impact. It’s corny, but I believe I have the ability to change the world; and we do that one kid at time. If we can work on healthy living, specifically mental and social health, we can make a huge difference in the world.”

KyLynn, you are changing the world for your students and community. Thank you for all you do!
