January 2019 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Chalyce Peck, Teacher, Cherry Creek Elementary
Nominated by: Starr David & Clint Cornwall
“Chalyce is one of the most detail-oriented, hardest working people I have ever met. There is no limit to the time and dedication she puts into everything she does. She cares so much about her students and goes above and beyond to make sure everything she teaches has a purpose and plan. She spends countless hours perfecting her lesson plans and is a joy to work with. She always has a smile on her face and radiates sunshine. Everyone who knows her, loves her and enjoys being around her positive attitude!”

“Chalyce is an outstanding person. She has so much love for her students and all those around her. I switched grades, and she was there to hold me up and keep me from drowning in a new grade. She has made me feel like an important person every day I come to work. She loves her students and is willing to try anything or do anything for them. She spends countless hours running the after-school dance club. She puts on amazing performances that inspire us all.”

Marina Irwin, Teacher, Meadow Brook Elementary
Nominated by: Leanne Johnson
“Mrs. Irwin has such great energy in the classroom, she is enthusiastic and positive! Mrs. Irwin is one of those teachers that you can tell loves her job and her students by the way she interacts with them; and how she really listens when they talk to her, which is so important for these eleven- and twelve-year-old students! Mrs. Irwin shows respect for her class by the way she speaks to them and through her expectations of them. It is very clear that her students respect her as proven by their exceptional behavior. Mrs. Irwin has a very tidy and structured classroom that is run very efficiently, which is important for a successful learning environment despite the 30+ students she teaches! She has such a fun personality which she shares with her students every day. We love Mrs. Irwin!”

Erin Cope, Teacher, Sierra Bonita Elementary
Nominated by: Amy Van Dyk
“Erin has gone above and beyond the call of duty in working with my special needs son. Before school even began, she talked to his kindergarten teacher about his challenges, did research on her own about my son’s diagnoses, and talked with us as parents so she could be prepared to support him from day one. Since then, Erin has continued to support him in amazing ways. She discussed some ideas about his needs with the reading specialist at school and started a program to help him with his handwriting. However, she included the entire class in this program instead of singling out my son. Erin allows him to stand most of the time during his schoolwork since she realizes it helps him and doesn’t interfere with others’ learning. She also filled out forms for us for outside therapy purposes quickly and expertly so we can get the best care for our son. He has thrived in her class, and we will be forever grateful for her help.”

Dave McKee, Principal, Spanish Fork High
Nominated by: Monte B. Larsen
“I lost a son on June 7, 2015, from a fatal head-on automobile accident. Mr. McKee and his wife came over for a visit on a Sunday during their free time. They spent quite a bit of time visiting with us. Then, Mr. and Mrs. McKee came back a couple of months later and brought the donations from the faculty over to us. They told us how much they appreciated me as their 1A Field Trip Bus Driver. There are not very many administrations that would take time out their own busy schedules to show their sympathy. The entire school, the secretaries, principal and assistant principals, and staff treat me as one of theirs. Mr. McKee has great leadership.”

Karen Burt, School Psychologist, Art City Elementary
Nominated by: Lisa Muirbrook, Shanna Huffaker, Jensen Krause, Shalese Rogers
“Karen has been instrumental in helping develop our school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Support and Response to Intervention programs. She has done countless hours of research to provide the faculty with up-to-date information, resources and support. Karen has designed Google files for quick access and record keeping for teachers. Her efforts have improved the ability for teachers to provide precise interventions and keep detailed data reports on student progress quickly and efficiently. She has changed the way Art City does collaborations, interventions, and record keeping. She has truly made a difference in professional development for teachers and in the education of our students.”

Monte Larsen, Bus Driver, Transportation
Nominated by: Mary Ledesma
“Monte is very involved in all the sports. He loves what he does and is a very nice and sweet person. Monte loves and supports all the students that he drives. You can’t find a more loving and kindhearted person than Monte Larsen. We all love him!!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools.
