At the Sweethearts assembly on Friday, February 19, representatives from KSL and Zions Bank presented Lisa Walker with the “Teacher Feature” award. Walker was nominated by fellow colleagues Suzette Hartvigsen, teacher, and Rick Robins, former principal. Walker is the Emergency Medical and Exercise Science teacher at Springville High as well as head Athletic Trainer.

Hartvigsen expressed, “Lisa Walker has made a huge difference in the lives of our students, athletes, and coaches at SpringvilleHigh School. As a teacher, I have watched her draw a huge picture of the heart on the sidewalk outside of our building so that students can walk through the heart as they describe how blood is pumped through the body. I also observed her providing students with a mock disaster to test students’ knowledge of first aid and CPR skills. What wonderful learning tools these activities have been for students."

“The students and parents at SHS completely love her and are very loyal to her,” exclaimed Robins.

‘It’s very exciting and great honor to be awarded “Teacher Feature;” it’s surprising, but I am very happy,” Says Walker

“Mrs. Walker is appreciated by many--from the students that take her class, to the big and muscular football players. Here at “Red Devil Territory,” Mrs. Lisa Walker has school spirit! Each Friday you can see her proudly wearing our school colors. Mrs. Walker attends all home games and many away games. In my eyes, Mrs. Walker is simply amazing at what she does, and is loved by everyone. I’m glad she received this award because she deserves it for all the good she does for Springville High School,” tells Shelby Anderson, one of Walker’s students.

"Teacher Feature" highlights outstanding teachers throughout the State of Utah. Winning teachers are announced each Tuesday morning on KSL Radio's Grant and Amanda show.

Each teacher is honored with a plaque from Zions Bank, an overnight stay at Anniversary Inn, a gift certificate for dinner at the beautiful La Caille Restaurant, and a pair of season tickets from Hale Centre Theater, West Valley. All winners are invited to attend an end of the year banquet at La Caille in their honor.

KSL has a panel of judges from Zions Bank, the State Office of Education, and KSL Newsradio who judge the hundreds of letters sent to KSL Radio. These letters are sent in by students, peers, former students, and even relatives. Visit KSL’s website for the full nomination of Lisa Walker at http://www.ksl.com/?nid=428&sid=9716137.
