Students from Mapleton Elementary gave a delightful presentation at the March Board Meeting. Principal Julie Peery introduced the students and thanked the Board for the opportunity to attend and share about the school.

School community council chairperson Layne West then addressed the Board. She spoke about the growth in technology at Mapleton Elementary. The goal for the school is to become a one-to-one Chromebook ratio in the upper grades with iPad stations in each of the lower grades. Of the many benefits, one specific benefit she outlined is how students can submit West concluded with expressing the great opportunity the School Community Council provides for teachers, parents, and community members to collaborate on school needs.

Next six students spoke about the excellent peer tutoring program. Over thirty 5th and 6th graders participate in this program assisting special needs students in their classroom. They help with homework, attend recess with the students, and build friendships.

“One of my favorite parts is when we walk in a room and the second they see us they are so excited and happy,” Kade Carlson said.

“I love to make new friends and I’m grateful for the friends i made with peer tutoring,” said Cassidy Robison

“I had made some good friends and I say hi to them in the hallways and at recess,” said Mitch Robertson. “I think it’s a great program at our school.”

“The kids in that class are so fun to be around,” said Sophia Jensen. “Something learned is that everyone has a fun, creative side and that we are all more alike than we think.”

“Peer tutoring was one of the best things I have done this year,” Bailey Marshall said. “We get to help them with reading, spelling, writing, and math. I’m grateful to be a peer tutor.”

Finally after just completing a week long production of "Peter Pan Jr." student members of the school play performed the number “He Can Fly” for the Board.
