November 2017 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Tiffanie Miley, Assistant Principal, Springville High/Oakridge
Nominated by: Everett Kelepolo, Mike Larsen, Pam Norton, Lana Hiskey, Daun Sorensen, Brent Coffman, Trent Mikesell
“Tiffanie is hard-working, focused, determined, intelligent, and has a great strength in developing relationships. She is an outstanding and positive administrator. In fact, she’s so positive – it rubs off. Tiffanie gives beyond the contract day championing and advocating for student progress and success at both Oakridge and SHS. She even makes time regularly to send ‘Thank you’ notes and thoughtful emails. Tiffanie supports her team members with IEPs, parent concerns, and addressing any problem. Tiffanie is tactful, even when sharing concerns and helping those around her develop the skills to better serve students. Each person Tiffanie spends time with knows that she is truly listening and advocating for them. Tiffanie goes to every game, activity, and performance and then posts their successes on social media. Tiffanie never takes any credit but shines the light on students. There is no one better that epitomizes the Nebo District PEAK Award. It has been outstanding for all of us to work with Tiffanie and learn from her powerful insights. Tiffanie is wonderful, and we love working with her! We are so grateful she is part of the Nebo team!

“Tiffanie carries the weight of Springville High on her shoulders. She does the work of five people, and she does it with a positive attitude. She is friendly to teachers, staff, parents, and students. She is extremely efficient, and she is always looking for the best way to do things. More than anything, she knows how to help people feel empowered. She asks for advice, and she is open to change.”

Judy Jacobson, Bus Driver, Transportation
Nominated by: Mt. Nebo Junior Latino in Action (LIA) Students & Veronica Solorzano
“Judy is a very kind and happy person. She always greets us by OUR NAME! Which none of our other bus drivers have ever done. Judy says she likes to know the students that ride her bus. (That says a lot about her.) When she drops us off at Barnett Elementary so we can tutor, she always tell us to have a great time and to have fun. Judy normally takes time to ask us how we're doing and how our day is going. Judy has shown interest in us and believes that we, too, can be successful. Some of us have heard her tell Mrs. Solorzano that we are great kids for wanting to tutor younger children. We really appreciate how Judy treats us, and the way she makes us feel every single day. Most of us in Latinos In Action feel we have Judy's support because when she looks at us, she sees leaders in us. Thank you Judy, we love you!!!”

Marie Mitchell, Speech, Goshen/Larsen Elementary
Nominated by: Jenny Staheli, Amy Mathews, & Jessica Jones
“Mrs. Mitchell is an exceptional teacher, especially with the pre-K and kindergarten ages. She does such a phenomenal job of reaching these kids. Mrs. Mitchell has tweaks all the lessons and takes them just that little bit further with props and/or incentives to give the that little connection to further relate the lesson and help it stick with the kids that much better. She is the kind of teacher I wish all my kids could have in an early year of school to get them on an absolutely positive and enthusiastic track for their education. Mrs. Mitchell is organized, kind, fun, focused and absolutely the best at what she does with these kids. When we started, my daughter was only 50 percent intelligible in her speech. She is now 98 percent intelligible. Mrs. Mitchell has many little tricks up her sleeve and is able to think outside the box to help the kids recognize the little nuances with their lip and tongue positions to help them progress so rapidly. She is such a gem. She does this job like no other person can.”

“Marie is so knowledgeable and dedicated to spending the necessary time working with students enrolled in speech. Her strategies and attitude help the kids advance far beyond where they think they can go. Her well of patience seems unlimited, and I've experienced first-hand what a difference her work makes in the life of these kids. She's done amazing things at Goshen.”

“Two of my children have attended her TLC program over the last three years at Larsen Elementary. I have always been amazed at her level of expertise and her enthusiasm for the preschool children. Her lessons are always fun and full of energy, inspiring me how to interact with my children. I also appreciate the level of caring she has shown for my children.”

Linda Walter, Teacher, Payson High
Nominated by: Jesse Sorensen, RaShel Shepherd, & Alyssa Behrend
“Linda has the role of technology mentor in our building and uses technology to reach more students. Not only does she help her students but is a leader when it comes to implementing technology that helps all students at PHS by providing training and support to the teachers. Linda works hard to ensure all students learn. She focuses on GRIT, which is giving students additional time to reach high levels of learning.”

“Mrs. Walter is very positive and loves her students more than any other teacher I know. She is very kind and generous. Mrs. Walter goes out of her way to make sure all students feel they are important, and that they have worth.”

Sue Miller, Secretary, Orchard Hills
Nominated by: Ryan Murray
“Sue is the face of Orchard Hills Elementary. She has been a part of the school since the day it opened. She is the first person everyone meets when they come to the school. Sue makes everyone feel so welcome. She is a blessing to those who only speak Spanish. She is able to talk to them in their native language which creates a much more inviting environment. She takes care of the teachers, students, and parents of the Orchard Hills community. She is someone who helps those around her become better.”

Quinton Morse, Custodian, Hobble Creek
Nominated by: Linda Baird & Michael Johnson
“It is amazing how quickly and thoroughly Quinton gets things done at our school. You never have to ask him twice to do anything. His summer crew was very happy working with him and are amazed at his management skills. Quinton is a positive influence to our school, and we are very fortunate that we have him at our school.”

“Mrs. Walter is very positive and loves her students more than any other teacher I know. She is very kind and generous. Mrs. Walter goes out of her way to make sure all students feel they are important, and that they have worth.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools.
