Principal Kali Brown of Spanish Oaks Elementary presented to the Nebo Board of Education for October’s Board Meeting. She talked about the excellent students that attend Spanish Oaks and all that they do to make the school a wonderful place.

First the student council presented. They spoke about Nebo School District’s theme of “Be a Nebo Hero” and said, “we are working each day to be someone’s hero.”

For Spanish Oaks, the motto for this school year is “Be kind, show respect, and work hard.” The student council taught the Board how to express that motto in American Sign Language. Each student at Spanish Oaks have a bright green wristband with the school motto written on it and they presented the Board with wristbands of their own to remind them of this important mantra.

Next, Emily Gunderson, co-chair of the School Community Council presented. She discussed how Spanish Oaks is trying to have one-to-one technology with the use of iPads and ChromeBooks in each classroom. She said they have been able to implement a new phonics program for their students and that it has been successful. In addition, Ms. Gunderson thanked the trust-lands money that has made many after-school activities possible including choir, science clubs, reading clubs, robotics, drama, and track. These programs are provided by the teachers.

To finish the presentation, the school choir sang two numbers for the Board: “America the Beautiful,” and “God Bless America.” The audience joined in the final chorus of the latter song. Thank you Spanish Oaks for a wonderful presentation!

Congratulations to Lorraine Tuttle for answering this week's "Where are we Wednesday?" challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
