Bonneville UniServ’s board member, Brent Gordon, honored Candi Bown, Nebo School District audiologist, for her service with Kids Cause during the February School Board meeting. Dr. Bown serves approximately 29,000 Nebo School District students. This includes 310 hearing impaired and all preschool students. She mainly works with the students that wear hearing aids and those with audio processing disorder. Dr. Bown is known across the state for educating parents and students alike about noise induced hearing loss. Dr. Candi Bown graduated from Utah State University with both a bachelors and masters degree. Following her clinical fellowship year at the University of Utah’s Ear Nose Throat Clinic, Candi started working as the audiologist for Nebo School District. That was 20 years ago. Bown earned her Doctorate of Audiology degree in 2005 from AT Still University of Health Sciences. Bonneville UniServ serves Utah and Carbon County. Their mission statement says, “To provide progressive leadership, encourage member involvement, and promote a positive environment for public education by protecting and advancing member welfare through political activity, community collaboration, and the recognition of an individual's worth and right to quality education.” One of Bonneville’s programs, Kids Cause, has been working in the schools in Utah County for the past 16 years to ensure that all students are successful by meeting their physical, emotional, and social needs. Clothing, school supplies, eye glasses, dental care, hearing aids and other needs are provided to students. Currently 16 schools in Nebo District are designated as Kids Cause schools, but any student in the district is eligible to be referred for help from Kids Cause. Dr. Bown said, “I have the best job in the world. I love working with kids and especially enjoy being able to help those with hearing loss. I am so grateful for a great organization like Kids Cause that has been able to help me in that quest.” She is married to Brent, and they have three children and one adorable little grandson.
