Superintendent Rick Nielsen Appointed to UVU Board of Trustees

Governor Gary Herbert appointed three new trustees to the UVU Board of Trustees. Rick Nielsen, the superintendent of Nebo School District; Paul Thompson, a former president of Weber State University; and Rob Smith, the student body president at UVU were confirmed as trustees by the Utah Senate.

Superintendent Rick Nielsen was appointed a member of the UVU Board of Trustees in June of 2017. Mr. Nielsen currently serves as the Superintendent of Nebo School District, with an enrollment of over 32,500 students, in South Utah County. He has held this position since 2010.

Prior to serving as Superintendent, his career included service as a sixth-grade teacher, elementary school principal, and district-level administrator. Mr. Nielsen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and a Master of Education Degree in Education Leadership from Brigham Young University.

Nielsen serves on a number of boards, including Co-Chair of the UVU/MATC K-16 Alliance, Chair of the BYU/Public School Partnership, Utah County Board of Health, Nebo Education Foundation Board, Utah Valley Chamber Education Committee, and Nebo Credit Union Board.

Rick grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah, and is a graduate of Spanish Fork High School. Rick and his wife, Karen, reside in Spanish Fork and are the parents of five children. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading a wide-variety of genres, attending the theater, and supporting sporting events.
