Dr. RaShel Anderson Shepherd – Payson High School Principal

With the recent administrative move of Ben Ford as the PEAK Center Administrator, the Nebo Board of Education appointed RaShel Anderson Shepherd as the principal of Payson High School for Nebo School District. 

Dr. Shepherd graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics Education, her Master of Arts degree from University of Phoenix in Educational Counseling, and her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Shepherd served as principal at Mapleton Junior for the past five years, as assistant principal at Maple Mountain for over three years, and principal at Spanish Oaks Elementary for eight years. She started her teaching career in mathematics at Spanish Fork Junior for one year and then at Spanish Fork High for four years. Dr. Shepherd then became a counselor for Brockbank, Barnett, and Park View Elementary schools as well as Springville High. She has worked in education for 26 years.

Colleagues of Dr. Shepherd said, “RaShel has a high degree of personal knowledge about the educational process and the needs of students.  RaShel genuinely cares about the people she works with and works hard to create positive relationships with students, parents, and staff. RaShel is a wonderful people person who celebrates and supports others. RaShel does a great job interacting with people - whether it is colleagues, staff, parents, or students. She can effectively communicate and show a genuine interest in others' wellbeing. RaShel is positive and looks for ways to solve difficult issues.”

Dr. Shepherd was honored as Instructional Leader of the Year in 2007 by the Utah Association of Elementary School Principals. In 1999, Springville’s PTA awarded her as the Counselor of the Year. Students at Spanish Fork High selected Dr. Anderson as Teacher of the Year in 1994.

RaShel said, “I want to take this opportunity to thank the School Board and am excited for this opportunity to go to an awesome school with strong traditions and academic spirit. I hope to learn from Mr. Ford on this educational journey. I have loved Mapleton Junior and learned amazing things. I’m grateful to do something so meaningful and rewarding to change the world.”

RaShel believes, “Kindness is one of the most powerful characteristics one can possess: it has the power to change the world,” and “Students may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

RaShel enjoys riding horses, snow skiing, running, hiking, boating, paddle boarding, and riding ATVs. RaShel is married to Trent. She has six children, four step-children, and five grandchildren.
