December 2016 Nebo PEAK Award Winners:

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Kay L. Tischner, School Board, Nebo School District
Nominated by: Students and Staff
“Kay L. Tischner has served on the Nebo School Board of Education for the past 12 years and decided not to run again. Nebo will miss him greatly. However, his legacy will not be forgotten. Kay L. loves the communities of Santaquin, Goshen, Genola, Spring Lake, West Mountain, and Payson. He is always willing to serve in a humble way. Kay L. gives of his time selflessly and has served on the Nebo Education Foundation for the past nine years. Kay L. mentored other school board members and is known for being frugal and careful with tax dollars, while promoting the best education possible for the students of Nebo School District.

“Thank you for your service, Kay L., to the employees and children of Nebo School District. You will forever be in our hearts.”

Lisa Schuring, ESL Technician, Sage Creek Elementary
Nominated by: Claudia Shaffer, Brenda Burr, & Pam Tippets
“Mrs. Schuring does not just work with, but loves her ESL students. She runs an after school tutoring and homework program for her students. She visits students’ homes and is always willing to come back to the school or stay late to be able to translate for a parent meeting. Lisa escorts parents to the junior high who need help registering their students.

“Lisa is concerned about Latino students having books; not just here in Springville, Utah, but in Mexico and Central America. She inspired our school to help raise money for ‘Books for a Better World’. She then takes a couple of weeks of her summer to hand deliver these books to the wonderful students who are in desperate need. She takes rickety old buses and trucks to the mountains, so children will have books in their language. Lisa is incredible!”

Jan Hunsaker, Drama Teacher, Salem Hills High & Spanish Fork High
Nominated by: Kim Lee & Kathy Thacker
“Jan is a fabulous teacher. She has so much knowledge and wisdom. I love that she is a ‘mom’ to each of her students not only through kindness, patience and love, but also through high expectations. She spent countless hours helping and serving students as the speech and debate coach at Spanish Fork High. She also found time to help coach and direct the drama students.

“I will be forever grateful for Jan’s amazing example to my daughter of striving to: do your best, make the most of what you are given, accept those around you, and lead in love and patience. Jan is an incredible woman! #JanForPresident  #IwantToBeLikeJanWhenIGrowUp”

Andy Hunsaker, Drama Teacher, Spanish Fork High
Nominated by: Kim Lee & Kathy Thacker
“Andy is an amazing teacher. As a teacher, I look up to his example of kindness, acceptance, patience, and hard work. I admire his ability to push students to reach excellence. I watched my own daughter learn, progress, and become more confident through Andy’s influence.

“Andy and Jan are a beautiful team in life and in teaching. They are more than Jan and Andy–they’re ‘Jandy’. Nebo has the best of the best with ‘Jandy’.”

Teresa Jordan, Facilitator, Maple Ridge Elementary
Nominated by: Sara Matis
“Teresa is always willing to help in any situation. From assisting a struggling reader or taking a student aside for a pick-me-up, she always goes the extra mile. The events Teresa runs are always well-planned, cute, and enjoyable. She gives her all to support her intern teachers as well as all staff and students. She is amazing! Even when handling difficult situations, Teresa is always positive about students. She also tells the BEST stories and is an endless source of entertainment and engagement.”

Jesse Sorenson, Assistant Principal, Payson High
Nominated by: Marcey Humpherys
“Mr. Sorenson provided exceptional service regarding a 504 plan and accommodations for my student. He shows genuine interest and concern for individual students and their needs. Thank you.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.
