Nebo Girls Experience Enlightening Hour of Code

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Nebo School District's Advanced Learning Center hosted 200 junior high-aged girls in the Hour of Code. Students traveled from seven junior high schools in Nebo for an “enlightening” field trip to learn and see code in an “electrifying” way.

Months previously in the Robotics class, Ms. Khristen Massic challenged her high school students to program a light show to a favorite song and play it in the front lobby of the Advanced Learning Center. Forty-eight robotic students and 10 engineering design and development students from all five Nebo high schools designed and developed this light show through coding.

On the field trip to the Advanced Learning Center, the junior high girls experienced this electrifying light show as well as saw bracelets printed in 3D. All junior high girl participants earned a certificate for completing the Hour of Code as well as received more information on how to further their computer science education at home and at school.
