"Wow" Samantha Sorensen, Art City Elementary 5th grade student, submitted this photo for Reflections last year for the 2008-2009 contest (theme was "Wow"). Samantha received this award for the State level, her picture went on to the National level and won an award of Merit. "I just received a Medal for National Level".

Samantha's parents received a letter from Charles J. Saylors, National PTA President, he said "Your child's national award-winning entry for the 2008-2009 program year truly stood out, and I am pleased to tell you that it has been chosen to join more than 40 other pieces of Reflections artwork to be unveiled at a special exhibit at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC!"

Samantha and her parents are going to Washington, DC for a reception Friday January 15, 2010. The exhibit will then be open for public viewing through February 19, 2010 at the LBJ Education Building, 400 Maryland Avenue SW, Washington, DC 20202.

When asked how she came up with the idea for her picture she said, "I went to the park to try to figure out what to do, my sister was sitting on the swing and the sun was above her head. I asked her to put her hands over her head to try to form a heart, she kept squishing the heart and ended up looking like she was holding the sun."
