Student's Eagle Scout Project Helps Sierra Bonita Students

Bradley Weston's Eagle Scout project will help around 1,000 people in case of an emergency.  He developed the idea while he attended the National Junior Honor Society service project at Diamond Fork Junior High. The students were collecting supplies to renew classroom emergency kits.

Bradley contacted Principal Mike Larsen at Sierra Bonita to get approval and a count of classrooms. He, then, compiled a list of supplies that were needed and made fliers to pass around the neighborhood. Bradley, along with 10 other scouts, distributed the fliers and signed people up for specific donations. The scouts returned to neighbors the next week to pick up the needed supplies.

Dan Weston, Bradley's dad, was able to secure a generous donation from his employments that helped tremendously.

Each emergency kit placed in a 5-gallon bucket included the following:

  • hand sanitizer
  • duct tape
  • toilet paper
  • whistles
  • Band-aids
  • sterile rubber gloves
  • alcohol prep pads
  • Q-tips
  • triangular bandages
  • large safety pins
  • granola bars
  • water bottles
  • flashlights
  • emergency blankets
  • hand warmers

Family, friends, scouts, and the neighborhood helped to organize the 28 emergency kits in buckets and delivered them to each classroom.

Bradley said, "I hope these emergency kits will be useful in the event of a natural emergency or lockdown situation."

Congratulations to Kristina for answering this week's "Where are we Wednesday?" challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
