Cherry Creek Elementary Recognized as Utah High Performing School

Submitted by ts on

The United States Congress has long recognized that higher poverty schools face unique challenges in educating students and provides supplementary assistance to those schools in the form of Title I funds. Schools that meet high levels of achievement and close the learning gap despite these challenges are to be commended.

Utah State Title I Committee of Practitioners established the following criteria that Title I schools must meet to qualify for these recognitions:

Utah High Performing Title I Schools Recognition

  1. Achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both Language Arts and Mathematics for the previous two years;
  2. Achieve at or above the Utah state average in Language Arts and Mathematics on the most recent CRTs; and
  3. Be nominated by their superintendent or charter school leader for state recognition as a high performing school.

Utah Closing the Achievement Gap Title I School Recognition

  1. Achieve Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in both Language Arts and Mathematics for the previous two years;
  2. Reduce by at least 50% the achievement gap between certain disaggregated student groups and the whole school in Language Arts and Mathematics; and
  3. Be nominated by their superintendent or charter school leader for state recognition in closing the achievement gap.

The Utah State Office of Education is pleased to recognize Cherry Creek Elementary in Nebo School District as a High Performing School for 2008-09 year.

The Utah State Office of Education will recognize each of the schools through the following actions:

  • A public announcement that includes a list of the Title I schools statewide receiving the Utah Title I High Performing Schools Recognition and Utah Title I Closing the Achievement Gap Recognition
  • A certificate of recognition from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for each school
  • A letter of congratulations to the local board of education/charter board
  • A letter of congratulations to the school that may be shared with parents and school community

The Utah State Office of Educations appreciates the dedicated service of teachers and administrators who work hard with parents and students in achieving this high level of student performance.
