The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.  Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need.  Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.

Craig Shields, board member, said, “The funds donated by our generous benefactors enable our fine educators to enhance both traditional and technology based methods of teaching.  We could not provide this assistance without the donations we receive from our communities, corporate and private donations.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Art City Elementary–Kim Larsen
“My students and I are so excited to bring standing desks into our classroom! We have studied the benefits and our class is eager to put these desks to the test. We anticipate benefits such as improved concentration, an increase in engaged learning and better health to name a few. We are so appreciative to the Nebo Education Foundation for giving students the opportunity to utilize a new idea in an effort to improve learning!” said Kim Larsen, third-grade teacher at Art City Elementary.

Sage Creek Elementary–Janeen Scott
“Sage Creek Elementary chime choir students and faculty are almost as excited about our new chimes as I am! The money the Nebo Foundation awarded to me and my chime choirs will go towards purchasing a seven note bass extension of chimes. We have been learning increasingly more difficult music, which has led to a need for a larger range of chimes. Now we will get to experience first-hand the power of a strong bass foundation in music. I love ringing bells and chimes and love being able to share that gift!  Let the music ring! !” exclaimed Janeen Scott, choir teacher at Sage Creek Elementary.

Brookside Elementary–Mijken Hall
Mijken Hall, special education teacher at Brookside Elementary, said, “I am thrilled the Nebo Education Foundation chose to fund my project! The learning games and manipulatives will be used by my students to help discover and solidify concepts. My classroom technicians and I are so excited to get to work with our new materials and help our students progress. Thank you Nebo Education Foundation!”

Oakridge–Julie Ellison
Julie Ellison, special education teacher at Oakridge, said, “These changing tables are amazing we were able to get them installed over Christmas break and have loved using them. We are no longer having to hurt are backs to lift the kids up to a high table.”

Springville High–Marie Condie
“I was very excited to receive the grant for an iPad Mini. One of the things I hope to do with the iPad mini is create online notes like Kahn Academy for my classes.  I have other uses for it as well, but that is my main priority. I'm sure it will take some time, but I think it will be well worth the effort especially for students who miss class due to school excused absences. Not only will they get the visual notes but verbal explanations will accompany it like in class,” stated Marie Condie, math teacher at Springville High.
