Nebo Education Foundation board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues, and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students. The Nebo Education Foundation functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses.

Laura Taylor, past president said, “It's exciting to be a part of an organization that improves the learning opportunities for our kids in Nebo School District. With tremendous support of local businesses and giving citizens, the Nebo Education Foundation can provide resources to teachers to enhance the quality of education for our kids in the classroom. Everyone wins when the kids benefit.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Larsen Elementary–June Williamson
June Williamson, special education teacher at Larsen Elementary, said, “I am so excited for The Nebo Education Foundation's help to purchase some teaching tools for the Special Education Students at Larsen Elementary!  Everything adds up. Having to be creative with various interventions for struggling students, the tools needed to implement them are greatly needed. The extra money will allow me to purchase more quality products that will last for several years. Thank you again!”

Foothills–Jill Shipp
“I decided last fall that I needed to somehow get dictionaries for my classroom. I have struggled over the years to effectively teach second-graders how to use a dictionary and understand the parts of a dictionary entry. I have felt that if I had a class set of dictionaries, I could give students the hands-on learning that they needed in order to become more familiar with the valuable tool that a dictionary is. I plan on using the dictionaries to teach my next lesson on dictionary usage. It was so very fun to have the members of the Nebo Education Foundation come in to my classroom and present the money with my students there to see.  That made them so much more excited for the dictionaries to arrive as well. I couldn't believe how very easy it was to write this grant.  Anyone can do it! Thank you Nebo Education Foundation! You are truly doing great things for kids,” said Jill Shipp, second-grade teacher at Foothills Elementary.

Diamond Fork Junior–Coy Nedesky
Coy Nedesky, special education teacher at Diamond Fork Junior stated, “I am so excited to get this grant for ‘Bouncy Bands for Desks and Chairs’. Some of the students I teach have ADHD, Anxiety, and/or Autism.  ‘Bouncy Bands’ will allow the students to move without causing a distraction to the rest of the class. It will help the students relieve their anxiety, hyperactivity, frustration, and/or boredom. This will allow them to focus on the lesson and be more productive students. Thank you so much for this additional support to aid my students in their education!”

Sierra Bonita Elementary–Dana Beckert
“With the grant money awarded to our school, we will be purchasing picture books for each classroom teacher. We are encouraging our teachers to expose their students to good, quality literature. Teachers will be given these books after participating in a professional development meeting focused on getting students hooked on the reading habit. We are hoping students will be motivated to read by providing a wide range of reading material and by providing experiences that engage them in social interaction about what they are reading. Along with each book, teachers will be given a list of reading activities and skills that could be taught with each book. We are excited to provide these books for our students as they continue to develop a love of reading. Thank you!” exclaimed Dana Beckert, facilitator at Sierra Bonita Elementary.

Brockbank Elementary–Robin Martin
“I am so excited about the receiving the grant. Our speech students work so hard to become great communicators.  They won't have to use boring worksheets anymore. Now, we can purchase fun and engaging materials to help them reach their goals! Thank you Nebo Education Foundation for supporting the teachers and students,” replied Robin Martin, speech specialist at Brockbank Elementary.

Riverview–Witney Loftin
Witney Loftin, speech specialist at Riverview Elementary, said, “The money I have received from the Nebo Education Foundation is absolutely priceless to my speech-language therapy program and the students I serve at Riverview Elementary. I have nearly 70 students currently receiving special services to remediate incorrect speech sounds, overcome language delays, and become better and more efficient communicators in both academic and social settings. This money will be used to buy therapy supplies to not only make their speech sessions more FUN, but (secretly) jam-packed with a lot more teaching techniques and practice opportunities. This will add variety and expertise to my supply cupboards and I am thrilled about putting it to good use! I love my job because I get to see these students become more confident in their ability to express themselves, make academic progress, volunteer in class, audition for speaking parts or plays, and become more outgoing in social settings. This money is going to help me in achieving that happy ending for my students and their families. I am definitely not the only person benefitting from this grant; my students and their parents and teachers will be so happy to see the progress to be made with these new materials. Thank you so, so much!”

Congratulations to all the teachers that applied for grants this month.
