Foundation President, Kristina Christensen remarked, "It is a pleasure to receive the grant applications and see how remarkable and creative the Nebo District teachers are. The Nebo Education Foundation facilitates these grant monies to help teachers realize their ideas and students' potential. As a foundation, we get to see a glimpse at how well our teachers are instructing our students. Our teachers are truly talented and utilize every penny. They do such a great job!"

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Salem Junior – Jordan Blanchard
Jordan said, “Thank you so much for awarding Salem Junior High School with a $400 grant! We will be using the money to finish a project to improve athletic and physical education facilities at our school. The money will specifically help finish a discus ring by purchasing the four-piece aluminum ring, which we will mount into the already constructed concrete pad. We will now have a competition level training area for our track and field team to practice discus. We, like many junior high schools, share facilities with our high school. Having this new facility at our own campus helps our student athletes and those at the high school get higher quality practice time. Last year, we had 180 student athletes, and we hope to have even more this year. We believe that track and field teaches many admirable qualities which can benefit all students.”

Oakridge – Mark Jones
“I would like to thank the Nebo Education Foundation for their grant for the purchase of adaptive strollers for the students at Oakridge. Many students at Oakridge are able to walk but have challenges that limit their ability to walk longer distances. Having adaptive strollers allows these students to remain with their class when they become fatigued or experience pain. These strollers will be used for everything from big events like field trips to small events like walks to the park when pain or fatigue limits their walking abilities. Being able to remain part of their class is a great benefit to themselves, their teachers, and the class as a whole.  Thank you again to the Nebo Education Foundation for making the purchase of these strollers possible!” exclaimed Mark Jones.

Riverview Elementary – Lesa Hyer
“I was so excited to receive the grant for four Chromebooks!  I have had two student computers in my classroom to use in centers for the past few years. The students will be able to work independently, with partners, and in small groups. Students will have reliable, efficient technology in the comfort of our classroom. This is especially important for students without technology at home. I have more ELL students than I have ever had before this year. Many of them have never been exposed to technology these will benefit them greatly. I explained to my morning class what was happening when members of the Nebo Foundation came to present me with the big check and take a picture. One of my students said, ‘Hey this is like the Ellen show!’ I truly felt like I was a big winner today too! I appreciate all the hard work you members do to raise money for teachers and students,” stated Lesa Hyer.

Salem Elementary – Pam Lynn
Pam said, “The Chromebook grant means a lot to our third graders and teachers.  We are so excited to be able to have a class set of Chromebooks.  The students cheered when they realized that everyone can get on their own Chromebook at the same time.  We are doing a lot of writing on the computer and to be able to use the chrome book at any time during the day is fantastic. Thank you Nebo Foundation for making that possible!”

Rees Elementary – Wright, James, & Mendenhall
“The sixth-grade teachers at Rees Elementary are so excite, because they have received a grant through the Nebo Foundation.  Because of this grant, sixth-grade students will be able to go to Salem Pond and learn about microorganism that are living in Salem Pond.  The students will be able to see microorganisms (with the aid of a microscope)  in Salem Pond and will be able to test water quality.  The students will create a thumbnail sketch of the environment, and they will have a blast doing it!  The Salem Pond field trip is always the favorite of our sixth graders.  Thank You!  Thank You!” exclaimed Nathan Wright.

Mt. Loafer Elementary – Rhonda Brady
Rhonda Brady said, “The grant I received will be used to buy seven new sets of books for our school's leveled reading library. Teachers will have access to new titles of engaging books. We were in desperate  need of updating titles so that the students will continue to be excited about what we are reading in class. My students have long been awaiting these new titles! Thank you so much for igniting a renewed desire to read in my children.”

Mapleton Elementary – Christine Jones
“I am very excited to receive a grant from the Nebo Education Foundation. The grant is for a Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy System, which includes 110 sets of books, Levels A-J, for our Guided Reading instruction in grades K-2 at Mapleton School.  What a much-needed and greatly appreciated addition this will be!  These quality books will be used by the 252 students who are currently enrolled in K-2, as well as by students for years to come. These books are perfect for engaging pre-emergent and emergent readers who are just beginning their journey on the road to becoming life-long lovers of reading.  This investment will reap great dividends in the future. Thanks from all of the teachers and all of the students who will be benefited by these books!” exclaimed Christine Jones.
