Government Officials Visit Sierra Bonita -- Senator Henderson & Representative McKell

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Student Council members invited Senator Henderson and Representative McKell to visit Sierra Bonita Elementary. The Legislators were able to participate in upper grade math lessons and lower grade guided reading. Senator Henderson showed sixth-grade students how laws are passed and gave students an opportunity to participate through a mock process. Representative McKell taught fourth-grade students about Utah history and government. One of the highlights of Sierra Bonita's Legislator Education Day was a stop in the Miss Peggy's medically fragile unit where they were able to meet some extraordinary students.

Representative McKell said, "Senator Henderson and I had a great visit at Sierra Bonita Elementary today. Sierra Bonita's student council was outstanding, and they were great hosts. You should continue to be very proud of the students in the Nebo School District."

"Sierra Bonita's student council demonstrates remarkable leadership every day, and this visit by state legislators is an example of that leadership, said Principal Mike Larsen.  "It is so much fun to watch these students work and lead. It's also a treat to witness the caring mentoring provided to this council by our teacher advisers.  We are grateful to Senator Henderson and Representative McKell for visiting our school at our student council's request. While with us, they witnessed classroom instruction and also taught students about their work and service as state leaders. This event was enjoyed by all who participated. We experienced a wonderful and memorable day!"

A huge thank you to Senator Henderson and Representative McKell for being a part of Sierra Bonita!
