The Nebo Education Foundation board met on May 5, 2015, to discuss the many grants and needs across the district. This Foundation Board functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses as well as fundraisers where all the money goes to educate students in Nebo School District. The Foundation’s Green Fever Golf Tournament held on May 14 was a huge success. Thank you to all those that so generously supported Nebo students.
Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.
Hobble Creek Elementary – Linda Pugh
Linda responded, “Thank you so very much! I am so excited to get new books for my second-grade students in our classroom library. This particular classroom has not had any new books, (except one or two here and there from the book fair), for over 10 years. I am so thrilled to be able to give the children an updated library with new titles and books that have no missing pages. I will build our classroom library with books appropriate to the reading level of all students, so that all can read a new and complete books at his/her own reading level.”
Sage Creek Elementary – Ginny Lund
Ginny said, “On behalf of my second-grade team at Sage Creek, I would like to say how thrilled we are to receive this grant. We will use it to replace the book, “Key to The Treasure”, which we use as an enrichment and supplement to our regular reading curriculum. It is one of the student's favorite reading activities during second grade. Our current copies are falling apart, so we have been trying to replace them. With this grant, we will be able to finish replacing all of our old books, and laminate the covers. Many thanks!”
Brockbank Elementary – Sherry Plaisted
Sherry Plaisted said, “Thank you so much for the grant for our leveled library. You are so fabulous. We strive to keep out library stocked with current titles that our staff would like to use with their students and replace well loved books that are falling apart. This grant will enable us to do that. We appreciate your dedication and commitment to the students of Nebo District.”
Wilson Elementary – Dan Hansen
Dan Hansen, teacher at Wilson Elementary, said, “We are very grateful to the Nebo Foundation for awarding us this grant! The grant was used to purchase 20 new guitars, cases, and straps. We will use them in an after-school guitar club and in the classroom to integrate music into our curriculum. Many students have benefitted from our guitar program in the past, and we are excited to have these new guitars so that more students will be able to participate and learn to love music and playing the guitar!”
Barnett Elementary – Lynette White
“Thank You for the grant for writing curriculum books for the fourth grade at Barnett School. We have worked diligently this year with our curriculum, trying to map out and find lessons that will supplement our core and be beneficial to our students. This program was researched thoroughly. It has the lessons coordinated with the core standards ready for use. I am so excited to use this program. I will be taking it home this summer to spend some time with it so I will be able to make the most of every day. I can assure you this program will be used. It will benefit the students in the fourth grade as well as students for the next few years. It is appreciated so very much,” stated Lynette White, fourth-grade teacher at Barnett Elementary.
The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District. Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students. Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need. Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.
Anyone interested in the Nebo Education Foundation or who wish to make a donation for education is encouraged to contact Lana Hiskey by email email@example.com, by phone 801-354-7400, or mail 350 South Main, Spanish Fork, UT 84660.
