First Annual March for HOPE - Answer to Wednesday's Challenge

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

Nebo’s first annual March for HOPE (Hold On, Persuade and Endure) was well attended by all of Nebo district's HOPE Squads. Others also joined in the walk making a total of approximately 400 students.  Each HOPE Squad member wore their school’s HOPE shirts and brought banners and posters promoting hope, mental health awareness, and positive messages. Some brought lanterns, glow sticks, and flashlights to get into the spirit of HOPE.

Mike Adams, Salem Junior counselor, welcomed the volunteers participating in the HOPE March that started at 7:00 p.m. in front of Spanish Fork High School on March 31, 2015.

Miss Spanish Fork, Megan Johnson, presented at the morning event to kick the effort into gear. A big thank you to the Spanish Fork Police Department for helping with traffic and crossing streets. The March for HOPE also partnered with a suicide prevention agency, Hope4Utah.

The March for HOPE is just one way for students to show their support. Most of the HOPE Squad students are chosen to be on the squad and do not apply for membership. These students are those that are friendly, helpful, and willing to listen to other students. Students seem to be the first to know if other students are struggling. Students can be the eyes and ears for counselors.

Initial reports show that these Nebo students, in their excitement, may have broken the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest number of glow sticks lit at the same time with around 879.

Congratulations to Lonna Christensen for winning this week’s “Where Are We Wednesday?” challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
