Band Beyond 5 Encourages Students to "Never Give Up!"

During the afternoon of December 16, 2014 shrieks and screams could be heard emanating from the south end of Wilson Elementary School.  The usually quiet hallways were abuzz with excitement as the up-and-coming boy band Beyond 5 put on an assembly encouraging students to Never Give up (a title of one of their popular songs). Students were also reminded to be careful of what they say to one another. Even a joke can be hurtful to others.

The students were also excited to hear from former WWE wrestler, Chris Hollyfield, The Little Boogieman.  Measuring 4-foot-4 he used stories from his childhood to help students recognize, and avoid, teasing and bullying.  Fifth-grade student Whitney Nielson said “It was sad to hear that when he was 12 he was bullied by hanging him up on a hook in the gym.  It’s interesting that even though he was bullied, he never gave up. He never did drugs, or thought he was less of a person.  He wouldn’t be successful in life if he had done that.” Hollyfield stressed three main things to students, 1) Think before you speak, 2) Respect your classmates, and 3) Respect yourself.

The students, faculty, and staff of Wilson give a big thank you to Beyond 5 and Chris Hollyfield for the memorable messages they shared.
