On Wednesday, September 9, 2009, Sage Creek Elementary had the opportunity to highlight it’s student council election process to the Nebo Board of Education. Sixth-grade student, Shae Christensen, talked about why she wanted to be on the student council at Sage Creek. She was followed by student council advisor, Janeen Scott, who spoke about the requirements necessary to and the service provided by the Sage Creek student council. Students who want to be on the council must be nominated by their peers, recommended by their teachers, write a 250 word essay describing how they intend to help make Sage Creek a better place, and provide at least five hours of service to the community prior to the election – which in and of itself accounts for less than half the points required to be elected.
In past years the Sage Creek Student Council has sponsored drives for Operation Smile, Increased Recycling, Box-Tops for Education, and Sub for Santa programs, In addition to serving in the book-exchange programs, fall carnival, school wide clean-up and Healthy Lifestyle activities. It is the goal of Sage Creek Elementary to help students recognize their responsibility and the opportunities they have to make their school, their community, and their world a better place for all. Sage Creek student council leads the way.
