Christmas Book Share Tradition with a Twist

Submitted by lana.hiskey on

For more than a decade, Principal Dwight Liddiard and Facilitator/Mentor Katherine Beck, have been sharing Christmas books with educators, librarians and others interested in fabulous and recently published new books.

On December 5, Nebo educators gathered at East Meadows Elementary to hear animated story telling of these recently published books. Mr. Liddiard and Ms. Beck perused hundreds of books copyrighted in 2013 and chose 30 well-written and nicely-illustrated Christmas books. Some of the authors included: Steven Kellogg, Shirley Hughes, and Tim Burton.

Mr. Liddiard said, "We love to sponsor the Christmas Book Share each year. We hope others will want to read books to children in their classrooms and share these books with their families. We want to continue this tradition every year.”

The Nebo Reading Council added a service project to the event this year. Every participant was asked to bring a notebook and writing utensil to give to the women and children’s shelter. Writing is such a large part of literacy, and they want each person to have the opportunity to write down their memories.

This tradition has provided a wonderful venue for Nebo educators to gather information about holiday books.
