Nebo Education Foundation Gives Grants November 2013

The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities served by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.  Many of the donations received are for selected programs and projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need.  Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to bless the lives of students.

Hobble Creek – Tami Johnson
“Thank you for giving us this grant. Because of the generosity of the Nebo Foundation we will be able to add a total of 462 books to our classroom libraries specifically for emerging readers. This will provide them with a greater selection of books to choose from and more opportunities for reading success. Thanks to this grant our young readers will have more just right books in their little hands. Thank you so much!” said Tami Johnson.

Larsen Elementary – Heide Taylor
Principal Andersen said, “Thanks to you and the Nebo Foundation Board for the grant to purchase MP3 players in Mrs. Taylor's classroom.  These will be a great resource in her listening center and will allow her to access many books and stories that are available through digital media.  These players will have long lasting affects in the classroom and in the lives of her students.  We appreciate all the the foundation does to support education.”

“Thank you for granting my request for funds to provide MP3 players for my classroom. My students will be able take a bag of their choice (which will contain an MP3 player and the books that are loaded onto it) and find a quiet spot in the room to enjoy quality literature. There will be six bags to choose from with around 60 books total. This grant will make the listening center experience for my students more enjoyable, and it will also make preparing for our reading rotations easier. I appreciate having the Nebo Foundation as a resource to acquire materials for my classroom,” said Heide Taylor.

Brockbank Elementary – Alexandra Dedrickson & Peggy Rothaug
Peggy Rothaug said, “A sincere thank you to the Nebo Foundation for funding this exciting project of additional shelving and non-fiction books for the Brockbank Elementary Library. The additional shelving space will allow us to display our library books in a pleasant and inviting manner which will encourage students to develop their curious minds through a love of reading a wide variety of books and periodicals.  It is such a joy to see the excitement on the face of a student when, through their individual reading, they have made a discovery of their own!”

Park Elementary Principal Ryan Kay & Susan Cloward
Principal Ryan Kay said, “Park Elementary would like to thank the Nebo Education Foundation for their generous grant to help put technology in the hands of our students.  The grant money along with funds from our PTA will be used to purchase 10 kindles to be used in our classrooms.”

Brookside – Stephanie Wilber
"Thank you to the Nebo Foundation for the money to help buy timers in my classroom.  These are going to be used to help the students with fluency.  They will also be used in math to help the students understand decimals and how to add and subtract using decimals.  These will also help students improve their physical fitness by timing themselves in running and other timed activities.  I love that the Foundation works so hard to help us teachers improve learning in our classrooms!  And I am so grateful to those individuals and businesses in our community who donate their time and money to benefit our students.  Thank you!" said Stephanie Wilber.

Hobble Creek – Brandi Wayment
Brandi Wayment, “I am thrilled to receive a Nebo Foundation grant. The puppet theatre and hand puppets will be an amazing addition to my classroom. Integrating the arts into my language arts curriculum will be beneficial to all of my students, but especially to those who need more vocabulary and language development. What a terrific way to make speaking, reading and writing a more cooperative, hands-on experience! Thank you so much.”

Salem Wetland grants were approved for the following:

East Meadows Elementary – Shandy McQuivey, Natalie Mecham, Suzanne Aguero, and Jennifer Loveland
“Thank you for the grant to go to Salem Pond.  We have done this field trip for the last few years and the students love the experiments and activities.  Thank you for the extra money for supplies, our magnifying cups and other supplies are getting worn out.  We appreciate the Nebo Foundation giving us the opportunity to explore one of our local attractions! Thank you,” said Natalie Mecham, Shandy Mcquivey, Jen Loveland, and Suzzane Aguero
