Nebo District Science Fair Celebrations -- Answer to Wednesday's Challenge

Nebo School District students were well represented at the Central Utah Science and Engineering Fair (CUSEF) with 131 district winners. Five winners presented to the Nebo School Board of Education Wednesday.

Hobble Creek Elementary student, Gabi Smith, won the Broadcom Masters Award, Ira A. Fulton Grand Award, and the Physical Science-Chemistry Grand Champion for her science project concerning which fruit has the highest vitamin C–oranges is the correct answer.

Trevor Jeppson, Mapleton Junior High student, won Physics and Astronomy First Place, Broadcom Master Award, Ira A. Fulton Grand Award, and the Junior Division Grand Champion for his science project on the Brightest Light Shake.

Mt. Nebo Junior High student, Paige Davis, won the First Place Animal Science and Broadcom Masters Award for her science project on Sensitivity of Color.

Justus Thomas and Caitlin Peer, students at Salem Hills High, won the Society for In-Vitro Biology Award, Yale Science and Engineering Association Award, Microbiology First Place, and the BYU Dean’s Award as well as scholarships to Westminster College for their science project on Creating Recombinant Plants Using Agrobacterium.

The Nebo District Science Fair students presented approximately 3,200 projects with 301 total students participating from 30 Nebo Schools.

Science Fair Coordinator, Patrick Hogle, said, “It would be impossible to run a district-wide science fair without our 102 volunteers and parents.”
