Principal Carl Swenson Honored with Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education

Carl Swenson, principal of Payson Junior High, received the Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education. Carl is the most outspoken student advocate to promote student success across all educational playing fields stated part of his nomination.

Effective school research continues to validate that the single most effective person to foster student achievement and outcome is the classroom teacher followed directly by the building principal.

J. Merrill Hallam nominated Principal Swenson for this prestigious award and said, “Carl was a master teacher of students and now in his current role as principal has been able to use the successful background to lead, guide, and train teachers and administrators in the most effective methods to execute and employ in the ever changing challenges we face in educating students.”

Principal Swenson continues to challenge students and faculty to step out of their comfort zone and dare to do more. He holds true to the high level of trust that has been place in him to lead Payson Junior High.

Jon and Karen Huntsman have presented awards for 21 years that recognize administrators, teachers, and volunteers. This is the second year that an 11th person, a special education teacher, is being honored.

All eleven recipients including principals, teachers, and volunteers will be recognized at a banquet and given a check for $10,000. Nominations for this award are made by parents, colleagues, or students. The Huntsman committee makes the final selections.
