What you will do and how the money will be spent to improve student academic performance (be specific). |
|
After an extensive needs analysis, the school community council has decided that Landmark High School’s greatest academic needs center around educating high school students who are behind in basic academic skills. A majority of Landmark students score well below grade level in reading, writing and math. Landmark students also have a difficult time passing the UBSCT (Utah Basic Skills Competency Test.) These students are behind in academic credit and progress towards graduation.
Money from this program will be used to train staff in various remediation techniques for struggling high school students and for travel to instructional conferences on remediation. This extra training will improve instructional effectiveness in reading, writing, and math at Landmark and help the staff meet the unique needs of our students.
Money also will be used to help students improve academic skills in reading, writing, and math. Additionally, programs in the areas of credit recovery and UBSCT remediation will be provided during after school hours. |

Your committee's specific goals for student improvement. |
|
1. Assist students in gaining grade levels in reading, writing, and math skills.
2. Provide UBSCT remediation to students who have not passed.
3. Provide a program for credit recovery that can help students graduate with their class.
4. Improve instructional effectiveness though ongoing staff development. |
4. c |
How your committee will measure or assess academic improvement. |
|
1. Students will be pre-tested and post-tested in reading, writing, and math using the Scholastic Reading Inventory and the TABE. Test results will be used to assess if the various interventions are working and adjustments will be made accordingly.
2. UBSCT remediation effectiveness will be measured by the number of students who received help and passed the test on successive attempts.
3. The number of students using the credit recovery program and the amount of credit earned though the credit recovery program will measure the effectiveness of this program. |

Landmark High School
School Land Trust Program
Proposed Academic Plan 2008-2009
Briefly describe the School LAND Trust Plan.
Academic Goals
Enter specific academic goal(s) [Landmark] has set to improve student performance with School LAND Trust money, please do not include other funding sources.
1. Assist students in gaining grade levels in reading, writing and math skills.
2. Provide UBSCT remediation to students who have not passed the test.
3. Provide a program for credit recovery that can help students graduate with their class.
4. Improve instructional effectiveness through ongoing staff development.
Planned Steps:
Describe in detail the steps [Landmark] will take to reach each goal. Describe specific actions (Hire a remediation reading teacher, purchase microscopes for AP Biology class, provide professional development to improve writing instruction) that will be taken to achieve the goal. In short, please provide a road map to success.
Goal One: Assist students in gaining grade levels in reading, writing and math skills.
Identify students who are behind in reading, writing and math skills by using the Scholastic Reading Inventory, and TABE assessments.
Place these students in Read 180, English Essentials, and remedial math classes to help them achieve their grade level in these areas.
Provide afterschool tutoring for all students who need help on homework. Tutoring time will be paid for out of School Land Trust funds. Specifically invite students who are behind in grade levels to attend the tutoring labs.
Goal Two: Provide UBSCT remediation to students who have not passed the test.
Identify students who have not passed certain sub-tests of the UBSCT and place these students in UBSCT remediation classes.
Make the tutoring lab accessible to these students.
Have special UBSCT preparation sessions prior to the October and February tests.
Goal Three: Provide a program for credit recovery that can help students graduate with their class.
Hire staff from School Land Trust funds to run an afterschool credit recovery program. Advertize this program to both students and parents throughout the school year.
Provide this program during the summer also.
Goal Four: Improve instructional effectiveness through ongoing staff development.
Send teachers to a conferences or workshops that deal with improving literacy with at-risk adolescents.
Have teachers who attend a workshop or conference use material learned in their classroom. Also, have teachers share materials with the entire faculty.
Measuring Progress toward goals:
Which beginning and ending measurements is [Landmark] going to use to measure progress towards each goal? The same measurements (test scores, number of library books checked out, informal teaching assessment, etc) must be used so results can be compared. What is the target to be achieved?
