Amyee Hargett, SHS, Inducted into Nebo Hall of Fame

Amyee Hargett, swim coach at Springville High School (SHS) from 2007 to 2016, was inducted into Nebo Hall of Fame this past week. 

Amyee Hargett swam for the SHS swim team in the 1980’s. Following her swimming career in high school, she swam for BYU. In 2007, Amyee returned to SHS as head coach for both the boys’ and girls’ swim teams. She continues to coach the most successful swim teams in Springville High’s school history. 

East Meadows and SHS Enchant Nebo School Board of Education

The Nebo School Board of Education were enchanted by Springville High’s choir led by Leanna Crockett as well as East Meadows' sixth-grade students performing a scene from the re-enactment of the Odyssey.

Principal Celeste Gledhill thanked the board for the opportunity to present and share some exciting things happening at East Meadows Elementary. She introduced Alyson Dart, a School Community Council board member, and sixth-grade teacher, Nicole Lyman.

Four Nebo School Board Member Sworn into Office

Four Nebo School District board members were sworn in by Tracy Olsen, Nebo School District’s Business Administrator, on January 11, 2017 for Nebo School Board of Education.

Dean Rowley ran unopposed in the Springville and Spanish Fork areas. He will serve for a fourth, four-year term as board member. 

Randy Boothe won his seat in the Spanish Fork, Benjamin, and Lakeshore areas. He will serve on the board for a fourth, four-year term. Christine Riley ran unopposed in the Payson and Spring Lake areas. She will serve for a third, four-year term as board member.

Engaging Nebo Student Captains with Leadership and Sportsmanship - Answer to Wednesday Challenge

Nebo School District held the Captain's Academy on leadership and sportsmanship. Captains’ Academy is held three times each year and includes  captains from junior high and high school. Winter Captain Academy includes  boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, wrestling, boys’ swimming, girls’ swimming, drill team, debate, and band.

Spanish Fork Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Gives Business in Education Award

Nebo School District honored Brent Wignall, owner of Wiggy Wash, with the Business Educator Partnership award at the recent Spanish Fork Salem Area Chamber banquet awards. 

“Wiggy Wash is an amazing partner on multiple levels to the students and programs in Nebo School District,” said Lana Hiskey, community relations administrator. “Wiggy Wash supports multiple golf tournaments and student group fundraisers. Recently, Brent collaborated with other businesses and individuals in giving a used car way to a Nebo family in need of a vehicle.”

Nebo Education Foundation Rewards Grants January 2017

The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.  Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need.  Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.

Mentors of Industry Leaders Opportunity

The Advanced Learning Center (ALC) is offering an ACE Mentor Program Open House on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the ALC, 570 South Main Street in Springville. 

By working with professionals in real work environments, ACE students receive an invaluable hand-on-education, learning the day-to-day workings of a business by living and experiencing it. not merely reading about it.
