The Bright Ideas Summer Session has been scheduled for July 8-19, 2012.

The purpose of the Bright Ideas Summer Program is to provide educational opportunities and experiences not usually found in the home or school for bright, accelerated, and highly motivated youth.

Participants can plan to experience a program of education and fun.

Sam Tsugawa, SHS Music Teacher, Receives Sorenson Legacy Award

Sam Tsugawa, music teacher at Springville High, was selected as the 2013 Sorenson Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education by the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Legacy Foundation. Seven music educators and other accomplished arts educators from around Utah were honored at a banquet last month. Each award recipient received a $2,500 grant from the Sorenson Legacy Foundation to be used in their respective arts programs.

Monica Giffing, SHS Agricultural Teacher, Receives State Award

Monica Giffing, Agricultural Education teacher and FFA Advisor at Springville High School, was selected for Utah's Agriculture Outstanding Agriculture Teacher Award. Members of Utah Association of Agricultural Educators (UAAE) select members who are at the pinnacle of their profession—those who are conducting the highest quality agricultural education programs. The award recognizes leadership in civic, community, agriculture/agribusiness, and professional activities. Outstanding agricultural educators are innovators and catalysts for student success in agricultural education.

Caryn Covington, Riverview Teacher, Received Excellence in Mentoring Award

Caryn Covington, a Special Education – Mild/Moderate Disabilities teacher at Riverview Elementary, was selected for the annual Cooperating Teacher Excellence in Mentoring Award given by the Department of Counseling Psychology and Special Education (CPSE) at Brigham Young University.

This award is given to exemplary teachers who convey a positive attitude toward the profession and have demonstrated a strong commitment to helping teacher candidates in the Special Education program acquire the skills necessary to become effective special education teachers.

Laurie Hansen, SHHS, Recipient of the National Master Adviser Award

Laurie Hansen, a Salem Hills High Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) adviser, is a recipient of the National Master Adviser Award from the Utah FCCLA Conference. This award recognizes advisers who have been successful in advising an affiliated chapter for a minimum of three years, promoting the organization, operating an integrated chapter with a balanced program of work, facilitating youth centered activities, and keeping abreast of new happenings within the organization.

Kirtlyn Bohling, a junior softball athlete at Salem Hills High, was selected the Gatorade Utah Softball Player of the Year in collaboration with USA TODAY.
 
This award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Congratulations on how to “Let it Shine”.
