Doug Snell, Spanish Fork High Athletic Director, Receives Honor

The Utah Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association bestowed one of the highest honors on Spanish Fork High’s Athletic Director, Doug Snell, the last week of April 2013. They awarded Coach Snell the Meritorious Service Award.
Now in his 30th year in interscholastic athletics, Doug began his career as a football and wrestling coach at Kearns High School. He then moved to St. George where he helped coach football, wrestling, and baseball at Dixie High. Two years later, Doug was extremely happy get the job as head football coach at Spanish Fork High.

Some Nebo Career Technology and Education (CTE) Highlights

Nebo School District hosted the State FFA Proficiency Award Judging contests in February at the fairgrounds. This enabled Nebo teachers to participate and not have to travel or miss the regular school day. Last week, SHHS hosted a livestock judging invitational meet in preparation for the state contests at the fairgrounds. This event brought students from St. George to Vernal. There were about 200 participants. The district facilities cooperative agreement with the city has made this possible to the benefit of Nebo students.

Nebo Elementary State Debate Winners


Sixteen fifth- and sixth- grade students from Brockbank Elementary and Hobble Creek Elementary participated in the Utah State Elementary Debate Division I on April 19, 2013.

Hobble Creek students, Leah Ribble and Bailey Monson, took Third Place as an Affirmative Team. Bailey also earned a Speaker Award. The coach at Hobble Creek is Carol Day.

KSL Featured Springville Junior HOPE Squad Students – Answer to Wednesday’s Challenge


On Tuesday, Nadine Wimmer of KSL interviewed three  Springville Junior High students who serve on the HOPE Squad for a feature piece on channel 5. The KSL feature highlighted a huge problem in Utah: teen suicide. During the program, Nadine Wimmer stated that students can play an invaluable role in helping to stop suicides among their classmates. The students she interviewed were Jaqueline Bradford, Halle Acor, and Spencer Johnson. She asked them questions about what would surprise parents when it comes to depression and stress among teens, and what advice they have for parents.

FFA hosting the Bar J Wranglers in concert


Spanish Fork, Maple Mountain and Salem Hills FFA are hosting the Bar J Wranglers in concert from Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  The concert will be held at Maple Mountain High School on May 4th, 2013.  Tickets are $15.00 or $25.00 (the $25 tickets include dinner and the show).  Dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m. In the cafeteria and the doors will open at 6:30 with the show beginning at 7:00 p.m.  We will also have a live auction with proceeds benefiting the three FFA programs.
