State Driver Education Teacher of the Year--Gary Mathewson

Coach Gary Mathewson, teacher at Payson High School, was awarded the State Driver Education Teacher of the Year Award for 2011-2012 by the Utah Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association in Salt Lake City.

Coach Mathewson has been teaching driver education in Nebo School District for 32 years and has taught over 6,000 students to drive.  Throughout the years, although coming close on a daily basis, he has never had an accident with a student driver.

Congratulations Coach Mathewson on a job well done.

Nebo Education Foundation Gives Grants April 2012

The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students.  Many of the donations received are for selected projects or scholarships, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need.  Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.

Westside Teacher Accepted into BYU's Leadership Preparation Program

Shawn Rawlings, fifth-grade teacher at Westside Elementary, will begin work on his master’s degree in Administration at BYU’s McKay School of Education in the prestigious Leadership Preparation Program (LPP). Rawlings has dreamed of being a teacher since childhood, because of the positive influences of his own teachers. His time in the LPP program will prepare him to become a future administrator, where he can continue to positively influence the students he interacts with.
