Nyle Russell Receives Prestigious Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education

Nyle Russell, agricultural teacher at Payson High and Payson Junior High, received the prestigious Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education May 2011.

Nyle was recognized in a surprise student assembly by Mrs. Karen Huntsman, wife of Jon Huntsman Senior. Mr. Russell received a crystal trophy and a $10,000 check to use personally. Only six teachers, three administrators, and two volunteers were recognized throughout the entire state.

When asked what he would do with his $10,000, Nyle, with no hesitation, said, “Take my wife to Europe for our 25th year anniversary."

Linda Lewis, physical education and drama teacher at Mapleton Junior High, received the esteemed Huntsman Award for Excellence in Education May 2011.

Linda received a crystal trophy and a $10,000 check to use personally. The award was  presented personally by Mrs. Karen Huntsman, wife of Jon Huntsman Senior. Only six teachers, three administrators, and two volunteers were recognized throughout the state.

Get Away Donates to Nebo Education Foundation

The Nebo Education Foundation is in the business of giving grants to teachers and schools to help enrich student learning. However, this week Get Away Today gave money to the Nebo Education Foundation to help fund those grants. Get Away Today’s Client Relations Director, Kim Fidler, gave a check totaling $1,275 to the Nebo Education Foundation through their business partnership. Get Away Today offers incredible deals to vacation spots including Disneyland, San Diego, Florida, and Hawaii to name a few.

Nebo High School Students Build Upscale House for Sale

Nebo High School students are building an upscale house in an upscale neighborhood, with construction almost complete. "They've done some of everything," said general contractor Tom Hawks, who heads home-building education for the Nebo School District. "From the cement work and framing to hanging doors."

Lynn Mecham was appointed by the Nebo Board of Education as the Assistant Principal of Springville High.

Lynn Mecham received his bachelor’s degree elementary education from Brigham Young University, and his master’s in Educational Counseling from University of Phoenix. He is currently working on his doctorate degree from Walden University.

With the new vacancy left by Lynn Mecham in the transportation department, the Nebo School Board appointed Joe Warren as the Transportation Supervisor.

Joe graduated from Payson High School and has worked for Nebo School district for 29 years. Some of Joe’s job experiences include: maintenance, electrician, and order clerk; as well as warehouse deliverer, refrigeration, purchasing foreman, and manager.

A colleague stated, “Joe is pleasant to be around and is willing to help. He takes charge of his responsibilities without reservations.”

Cathi Jarvis Selected 2011 National Award of Merit

Cathi Jarvis, Springville High’s Athletic Director, received the National Award of Merit 2011 by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) this spring. There is only one award per state.  Cathi was selected out of all the other athletic directors in Utah. The awardee is selected on meritorious service, leadership, and special contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local and state level.
