Nebo Education Foundation Receives Funds

Lana Hiskey, Nebo Foundation Executive Director; Kim Fidler, Get Away Today Client Relations Director

The Nebo Education Foundation is in the business of giving grants to teachers and schools that help enrich student learning.

However, Get Away Today gave money to the Nebo Education Foundation to help fund some of those grants. Get Away Today’s Client Relations Director, Kim Fidler, gave two checks to the Nebo Education Foundation through their business partnership. Get Away Today offers incredible deals to vacation spots including Disneyland, San Diego, Florida, and Hawaii to name a few.

Lynn Harmer Selected Teacher of the Year

Lynn Harmer--Physical Education Teacher of the Year

Lynn Harmer, physical education teacher at Mt. Nebo Junior, was selected as Teacher of the Year by the Utah Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Lynn was born and raised in Payson, Utah, and held her first job as a fruit farmer on her family's farm. It was while on the job planting, picking, sorting, and selling that her father first suggested she go into teaching. Lynn graduated from Payson High School, where she was active in student council. She also spent her summers swimming for the Payson and Utah Valley swim teams.

October National Principals Month

Let's hear it for principals! The U.S. Senate passed S. Res 607, a resolution drafted by NAESP and the National Association of Secondary School Principals to designate October 2010 as National Principals Month. SenatorByron Dorgan, D-North Dakota, introduced the resolution, which honors elementary, middle, and high school principals for their passion and dedication to students across the country. The U.S. House of Representatives may consider a similar resolution, H. Res. 1652, introduced by Rep. Susan Davis, D-California.

Superintendent Nielsen First Day on the Job--Reading to First-Grade Students

What was Superintendent Rick Nielsen doing his first official day on the job?   He volunteered to read in Mrs. Aagard’s  first-grade classroom at Spanish Oaks Elementary. The class enjoyed listening to the new Superintendent read the book, "The Snowy Day." He also read two Halloween books.

Superintendent Nielsen also taught the first graders a new Halloween song.  He said,  “I enjoy being with the students in Nebo School District and helping them achieve their learning goals.”

Rick Nielsen Appointed New Superintendent of Nebo School District

Mr. Rick Nielsen, the current assistant superintendent for the past two years, has been appointed by the Nebo School Board of Education as the Superintendent of Nebo School District. Mr. Nielsen was the elementary director for four years, Rees Elementary principal for one year, Art City Elementary principal for four years, Westside Elementary principal for two years, and he previously taught sixth-grade for six years at Timpanogos Elementary.

Wilson Elementary Selected as School of the Year by Sam's Club

Sams Club representatives presented ten teachers each a one hundred dollar gift card.

Wilson Elementary School was honored as “School of the Year” by Sam’s Club at a recent faculty meeting. Sam’s Club donates over 4 million dollars to schools across the United States every year. Sam’s Club provided each teacher, at Wilson Elementary, a gift bag filled with various school supplies. Wilson students received a small treat. Sam’s club also donated ten $100 gift cards to help teachers purchase supplies for their classrooms.
