Nebo School District's Nutrition Program Receives State Recognition

Nebo School District’s Child Nutrition Program receives state recognition from the Utah State Office of Education for going “Above and Beyond” the state’s nutrition program requirements.

The Utah State Office’s Child Nutrition Program Director, Luann Shilpley, states, “Nebo District is recognized for your outstanding efforts in going ‘Above and Beyond’ the program requirement. You’ve help support our state mission to promote the nutritional well-being of children so they may reach their full potential.”

Nebo Education Foundation Partners with Individuals to Award Scholarships

Nebo Education Foundation continues to receive more funds from generous donors to award scholarships.  Over $50,000 in scholarships were awarded this spring to students from Nebo Education Foundation to assist them in furthering their educational opportunities.  Seventy scholarships helped pay tuition to schools such as Utah Valley University; Southern Utah University; Utah State University; Brigham Young University Hawaii, Idaho, Provo; Dixie State College; Snow College; College of Eastern Utah; and University of Utah.

Superintendent Chris Sorensen Retires

Superintendent Chris Sorensen has accepted a position with Brigham Young University in the Educational Leadership Department. Superintendent Sorensen has worked in Nebo School District for 33 years. Six of those years as superintendent.

Nebo School Board President, Dean Rowley, said, “We appreciate all Chris has done for Nebo School District and hate to see Superintendent Sorensen go. This new position is a good opportunity for him and his family.”

Salem Hills High Teacher Selected as Educator of the Year

Josie Reynaud, business teacher at Salem Hills High School (SHHS), was awarded the Utah's Outstanding Business and Information/Technology Educator of the Year this summer by the Utah Business and Computer Education Association (UBCEA).

Josie has been teaching for 12 years in the Provo and Nebo school districts and is currently teaching keyboarding, computer technology, word processing, office procedures, business communications, multimedia, business web page design, and financial literacy at Salem Hills High School.

Coach Marilyn Miller wins Fifth Championship

Marilyn Miller, golf coach at Payson High, wins her fifth Club Championship with the Gladstan Ladies.

Assistant Principal Brett White said, “Coach Miller is dedicated to students and excellence. She has done such a great job with the boy’s and girl’s golf teams at PHS, and she is great to work with.”

Coach Miller has worked 13 years for Nebo School District. We are thrilled to have such an excellent coach on staff. Congratulations!

Farmers Insurance donates to SHS Girls’ Soccer

Springville’s Girls’ Soccer team has received another generous donation from Farmers Insurance of $500 through the Nebo Education Foundation. This is becoming an annual donation for the girls. Other donors to the SHS Girls’ Soccer are Physical Sports Therapy, Strong and Strong, Pacific Horizon, the Swanson family, Wells Fargo Bank, and Rich & Kim Davis totaling $1,030.

Chemistry Educator Award

Denise Villarta, Maple Mountain High School chemistry teacher, was selected to receive the Utah High School Chemistry Educator Award for 2010. This award is given yearly to the two top educators in Utah. Mrs. Villarta will be honored at a banquet on August 4.

SHHS and SHS FBLA Attend National Competition

This year, three members from the Salem Hills High School and two members from the Springville High School chapters of FBLA qualified to compete at the 2010 FBLA National Leadership Conference which was held July 14-17 in Nashville, TN.

Justin Smith (SHHS) competed in Personal Finance, Trisha Christensen (SHHS) competed in Accounting I, Zack Beck (SHHS) competed in Job Interview, Chelsie Murdock (SHS) competed in Business Procedures, and Jerich McAfee (SHS) competed in Business Communications.
