Crystal Apple Award at Canyon

Jeanette Maughan's peers from Canyon Elementary, voted for her to receive the Horace Mann Crystal Apple Award.  Jeanette's first job was in the Provo School District where she taught first-grade at Timponogous Elementary School.  Many of her students were from other nations.

Three of her students were called Two, Twee and Bambi.

Nebo Attendance Program Recognizes Outstanding Students

Nebo School District’s Nebo Attendance Court (NAC) recognized two students who graduated from the program last week.

Zack Hickman of Landmark High is the first to have earned the right to graduate from NAC. Zack set a goal of having perfect attendance and with the support of his parents, school and the NAC program staff, he attained that goal last Tuesday, November 3. He also had $25.00 of his fine refunded to him.

Nebo Attendance Court in its Third Year

The Nebo Attendance Court (NAC) program is in its third year of operation in Nebo School District. It was modeled after the Kentucky truancy model developed by Judge Joan Byers as an alternative to sending students to Juvenile Court for Habitual Truancy. Under the program the school, student, parents, and program all work together to help the student improve poor attendance and poor grades.

Native American Indian Heritage Month

Nebo School District is celebrating the National Native American Heritage Month along with Governor Gary Herbert’s issued declaration that November be observed as ‘American Indian Heritage Month and the Monday proceeding Thanksgiving as Indigenous Day.’

KSL Radio and Zions Bank honored Sherrie Dunford, orchestra teacher at Diamond Fork Junior High in Spanish Fork, for the "Teacher Feature" program this past week. This program was developed to recognize outstanding teachers who have gone the extra mile, not only in the classroom, but who have also made a significant impact on many young lives.

Sterling Knight and Fatima Reedy

Diamond Fork Junior became famous for a day. Fatima Reedy, a seventh-grade student at Diamond Fork Junior, recently won a national Radio Disney contest. The prize included a visit from Sterling Knight, Disney star.

Fatima Reedy’s entire math class and her closest friends had a photo taken with the celebrity.

Eli Herring - HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE - 2009

Eli Herring and family

On behalf of Nebo School District and the coaching staff at Springville High School, Eli Herring has been nominated into the Nebo School District Athletic Hall of Fame for his positive role as an outstanding athlete.

During his high school years, Eli participated in football, basketball, wrestling and track. He lettered in all four sports. He was captain of the football team his senior year at Springville High. He was also a member of the 1985 football team that took the state championship title.
